The Basque municipality of Sopela has 3 beaches distributed along its coast. Although some of these beaches are shared with the neighboring towns of Getxo and Barrika, they are still part of the coast of Sopela. 
Barinatxe Beach: Barinatxe, popularly known as La Salvaje, is located between the towns of Getxo and Sopela. A sandy beach of fine sand, which, protected by large cliffs, has become the perfect place for sports such as paragliding or surfing. Where to park on the beaches of Sopela.
It is very important to know that, during the summer season, the different parking areas that we find next to the beaches of Sopela have OTA service (Traffic and Parking Ordinance). Therefore, if you decide to access by private transport to any of the beaches of Sopela, we recommend that you remember to pay the OTA if you do not want to find any surprises when you return. The only exception is Meñakoz beach, a cove located between Sopela and Barrika that has no official parking. 
How to get to the beaches of Sopela.
The location of these sandy areas allows us to reach them both by private and public transport. In any case, there are several possibilities. Here is a brief summary of how to get to the beaches of Sopela.
- Private transport: As we have already indicated, if you opt for this type of transport you will have to pay the corresponding amount to the OTA. On the other hand, if you want to complete the visit to these Basque sandy beaches with a visit to a winery, the use of private transport is the best option to reach the rural corners of the interior.
- Public transport: The best public transport to get to Sopela are Metro Bilbao and Bizkaibus (the public bus service of Bizkaia). Although if we had to choose between one of them, we would clearly choose the metro. The metro stops that we find near the beaches are those of Larrabasterra and Sopela. We must point out that these metro stops are more than 15 minutes away from the beach, so the best option is to use the Sopelbus, the bus that connects the center of the town with the beaches of Barinatxe and Arrietara Atxabiribil.
