Aldabide waterfall, one of the most striking areas of the Gorbeia Natural Park.
The Aldabide waterfall, one of the treasures of the Gorbeia Natural Park, gives us a family route with breathtaking views. A route that invites us to enjoy nature in style. If you still do not know Orozko, we recommend that you enjoy the different neighborhoods that are scattered throughout this beautiful mountainous environment. A natural spot that we are sure you will love.
As many of you already know, it is not the first time that we talk about the waterfalls that we find in the town of Orozko, and a few months ago we published an article about the Belaustegi waterfall. An impressive waterfall, protected by beeches and ferns, surprises and enchants everyone who decides to visit it. In the case of Aldabide, the waterfall is not so striking but the views are much better. Do you dare to visit the Aldabide waterfall with us?
Today we present the linear route that takes us to know the Aldabide waterfall. But it is not the only option. It is also possible to make a circular route. In any case, the path that leads to the waterfall is the same. So our indications are valid for both options.
Route to the Aldabide waterfall.
The route to the Aldabide waterfall begins next to the Elezkin parking lot, in the Urigoiti neighborhood of Orozko. From here, after leaving behind the tables and the Canadian pass that we find next to the recreational area of this parking, we will head to Pagomakurre. From the beginning, from the parking lot itself, we will enjoy the impressive massif of Itxina. A view that will accompany us for almost the entire route.
Following this same path, after about 300 meters, on our left, we will find the water tank of the neighborhood of Urigoiti. Practically at the same height, we find a detour to the right. This is the first detour of this route, we turn right. We begin to travel what is undoubtedly the steepest slope of the entire route. After this climb, the profile softens.
We arrived at a metal gate. In our case it was open, but if you find it closed, on one side you have a kind of ladder with which to overcome this obstacle. We continue climbing.
After about 100 meters, we will find the second crossroads, we turn right again, we go down. Be careful, because, as we are going down, 100 meters, we find another detour. This time we take the left path, we go up.
On our right we have an incredible view of the valley, in the background, as always Itxina. Impressive. We reach a point where the road becomes a real carpet of grass that leads us to a metal gate. We enter the beech forest.
Although we would love to walk among these ancient beeches, we must skirt the beech forest at the bottom. As soon as we cross the metal gate on the right. The path invites us directly to leave this magical forest to head towards the final stretch of our route. We begin to hear the waterfall.
From this point we only have to follow the path to reach the Aldabide waterfall. Of course, this area has a very steep slope to our right, be careful, especially with the little ones in the house. Arriving at the waterfall, the view is simply amazing. A large waterfall with the Itxina massif as a great backdrop. Little more you can ask for.
Once we have enjoyed this magnificent corner of Euskadi, we have 2 options: return the way we came and stop to enjoy the beech forest, or take a circular route taking the path that starts next to the waterfall, uphill. In our case we decided for the first option.
It took us about 2 hours approximately to make this route back and forth. But we must subtract more than 30 minutes for the time we spent flying the drone to take the videos and photos that you can see throughout this article. So we can say that it has a duration of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Route profile.
Although it is a route of less than 5 kilometers long and less than 2 hours long, this route has a section that can frighten and confuse families who decide to come to Orozko. A part of the route, that although it can be hard and heavy for the smallest of the house, it is worth it. That said, as a conclusion, we can say that although the first part of the route is going to be hard, the views and the landscape that surrounds us for much of the route encourages us to make an effort with every step we take.
Where to park.
We can leave the vehicle in any of the 2 parking lots that we find in the Urigoiti neighborhood of Orozko (Karobiondo and Elezkin). In our case we opted for the latter, the Elezkin parking lot. To get to this parking we must head towards the town of Urigoiti, turn right (we pass next to the chapel of San Lorenzo) and leave behind the parking of Karobiondo. To give you an idea, the distance between the urban center of Urigoiti and the Elezkin parking lot is about 500 meters. It is a small parking lot, with about 10 spaces, so it is advisable to get up early to find a place. If this parking lot is full, the karobiondo parking lot is another great option.
