We visited the Hotel Seminario Bilbao, a simple, practical and renovated establishment, less than 5 minutes from the Bilbao airport.

In 2010, the old Hotel Andrea gave way to its successor, the Hotel Seminario, the current hotel of the Seminario de Derio. An accommodation, which in addition to the obvious change of name, also underwent a good aesthetic reform throughout the year 2016. AirportBefore you ask, we must point out that, although the hotel has windows and all kinds of insulating closures, being a hotel near the airport, it is normal to feel the passage of airplanes during the day. However, the first flight from Bilbao airport is usually around 6:30 am and the last one around 11:30 pm, so, in “theory”, it is not a problem.

Transportation: The Hotel Seminario Bilbao is located in Derio, a municipality, which today has the L3-E3 line of Metro Bilbao-Euskotren, a section, which is responsible for linking the town with lines 1 and 2 of Metro Bilbao, the most used, practical and comfortable public transport in Bizkaia. In short, we can say that the Hotel Seminario Bilbao is located 7 stops away from the Casco Viejo, the heart of Bilbao.

In addition, the buses and trains of the public organizations Bizkaibus and Euskotren, 2 public entities of great presence in the territory, offer their services to transport us to the center of Bilbao.

Restaurant and cafeteria: The Hotel Seminario does not have its own restaurant, so all breakfast, lunch or dinner services are provided in collaboration with the catering company that occupies the first floor of the same building, the cafeteria and restaurant Txoko Ona. Although we did not have the opportunity to try the aforementioned services, we did try the creations offered by its cafeteria.

Sports: Next to the Hotel Seminario Bilbao, in the adjoining buildings, there are sports facilities for all tastes. From a golf school, to paddle tennis, soccer or Pitch and Putt (9 holes and short distances). Among all the facilities we highlight the Celles Golf School, where our dear “txapeldun” from Barrika, Jon Rahm, improved and polished the strokes he practiced in his beloved Larrabea Golf Club. On the other hand, for the lovers of running, the streets surrounding the building, form a quiet route and affordable profile for training and stretching the legs.

Parking: Although the hotel has no private parking, in front of it is one of the largest parking lots that exist in the Txorierri Valley. We venture to say that 99% of the time we usually find a free space. In fact, during all the occasions that we have visited any attraction in the vicinity, we have been able to park our vehicle without any problem. Free and safe, that’s all we could ask for. By the way, in case you can’t find a space in the front, remember that in the back there is another smaller parking lot where you can try your luck.

Price: Although the prices of the hotels vary depending on the events that take place in the surroundings and the time of the year in which we stay in them, the price of the Hotel Seminario Derio maintains a more than correct value for money. Normally, the price of this hotel is usually somewhat lower than the hotels we find in Bilbao itself. It is all a matter of comparing prices and making the decision depending on the places you plan to visit.

Rooms: The rooms, exterior, renovated, clean, spacious and with a nice lighting, offer us a stay according to what they offer us. The rooms are more than adequate for an accommodation of its category. The Hotel Seminario Bilbao has 70 rooms and 2 suites at your disposal, with special emphasis on family rooms that offer groups or large families. Attention: The employees of the Hotel Seminario Bilbao, welcomed us with open arms and solved all kinds of doubts we had about the hotel and the attractions of its surroundings. No problem, they were very nice.

Free airport transfer: Comfortable, free and safe. This is how we define the service provided by the Hotel Seminario Bilbao. In addition, as a complement, next to the hotel reception we find a screen that shows us detailed information about the Bilbao airport flight departures live, in real time. Perfect for not having to wait at the airport in case of flight delays or cancellations. Remember that in order to enjoy this service you must indicate before our arrival to the hotel managers so that they can organize the transportation. In case of bringing with us any object that is out of the ordinary (surfboards, golf clubs or large suitcases) we must also indicate it so that we do not have problems with the transport. If there is a downside to this service, it would be the timetable, as this free transfer to Bilbao airport is only available from 5 to 10 am.
