The region of Uribe is where we start all our trips to tour the Basque Country, and it is this land full of contrasts that we were born and grew up. This time, we stop visiting museums, charming villages and other places of great interest to enjoy nature through active tourism, adventure tourism, tourism experiences. Attracted by Uribetrip 2016, active tourism blogtrip of the region of Uribe, we enjoyed an incredible weekend in which the most representative companies of active tourism welcomed us with open arms. An event organized by the rural development association of the region of Uribe (Jata-Ondo) and the active tourism company Troka Abentura, two entities very present in the daily life of this region of Bizkaia. Thanks to them, we had the opportunity to enjoy an amazing weekend, a weekend full of surprises in which gastronomy and experiences were the protagonists.

The region of Uribe, located in the province of Bizkaia, Basque Country, comprises the valleys of Txorierri and Butrón, a vast territory where cliffs, beaches and mountains are the protagonists, a fantastic geography to practice active tourism.

Sea, mountains, charming villages and of course, a lot of history and Basque culture, perfect characteristics to know all the charms offered by Euskal Herria, in a single region. San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the lighthouse of Gorliz, the cliffs of Barrika and Sopelana, the Castle of Butron and the trees of the Akarlanda park were the backdrop of our activities, a luxurious background.

Although this is only a small representation, they were the ones in charge of supplying us with adrenaline during the whole weekend. 8 adventure sports companies for 8 unique experiences. Do you dare to experiment?

Although vertigo and TurismoVasco.com’s agenda prevented us from enjoying some of the activities with the rest of the group, the faces and shouts of our fellow travelers were good indicators of the quality of all the experiences. The sun finally prevailed over the clouds and the sirimiri that had accompanied us at the beginning, a great time to enjoy the Biscayan coast and outdoor sports.

–Paragliding (Parapente Sopelana, Parapente Bizkaia): In this experience we were accompanied by 2 great companies in the sector, Parapente Sopelana and Parapente Bizkaia. Two companies that invite us to know the coast of Sopela from the heights, from a bird’s eye view. This experience to taste of the consumer, proposes us 20 minutes of flight in which our expert gives us the opportunity to perform from a quiet flight to the craziest flight you can imagine, pirouettes and acrobatics not to forget. Do you fly?

-Surf (Uribe kosta Alder surf eskola): Barinatxe beach, better known as La Salvaje, was the perfect setting to take the first steps aboard a surfboard. A very special beach where many Basque surfers were initiated in this adventure of surfing the sea.

–Golf (Palacio Urgoiti golf): A small course (Pitch and putt) very technical surrounds the Palacio Urgoiti hotel, a wonderful place to get started in this passionate sport where age is not a problem. David, a Cantabrian professional, was in charge of accompanying us on this adventure where pars were expensive. It was here, at Palacio Urgoiti, where we enjoyed an aperitif in a small old hut where the gardening tools were kept, next to the green of hole 3, a real wonder.

-Horseback riding (Hípica Butrón): Hípica Butrón’s horses, their instructors and their location provided us with a fantastic horseback ride around Butrón Castle. Docile horses like our beloved “Claus” took us quietly from the stables of the Butrón riding school to the gates of the castle of the same name. A quiet and pleasant ride that in the hands of our friends of the Butron Equestrian Club (those with 2 legs and 4 legs) turned out to be a very attractive experience.

-4×4 route (4x4ocioaventura): Our dear friend Fernando took us once again inside his 4×4, adrenaline, good views and difficult to access corners accompanied us throughout the route. A route that you can find in our experiences section.

–Tree park (ForestalPark Bilbao): From tree to tree and jump because it’s my turn. An adventure that scares (pardon the expression) but hooked. Circuits for all levels and ages await us at ForestalPark Bilbao, Akarlanda Park, Erandio, Uribe, Basque Country.

–Teambuilding (Troka abentura): 2 groups, 1 winner. A great variety of “games” that promote teamwork while we enjoy like real children of activities programmed according to our skills and age. An adventure that thanks to the intervention of “Txapas” and “Satan” (Troka abentura) became an authentic experience of teamwork in which we breathed a healthy but tough rivalry.

–Coastering (Troka abentura): An experience in which the coast of Gorliz, its cliffs and the Cantabrian Sea create an environment in which to do the activity that is called to be the future “canyoning”, a coastal activity that can overlap perfectly with other activities or visits, such as the visit to the underwater winery Crusoe Treasure.
