Boat tours in Donostia San Sebastian.

There are several types of boat tours in Donostia San Sebastian, those that are made within the bay of La Concha and those that are made outside the bay. In the interior there are 2 boat routes, the route to the Santa Clara island of Donostia San Sebastian (a route that only takes us to the island) and another that in addition to approaching us to the Santa Clara island surprises us with a beautiful route throughout the Bay of La Concha. In our opinion, it is worth opting for the second option. A more complete and longer maritime route in which, in addition to enjoying the island, we can know in detail every corner of the Bay of La Concha. As for the boat routes along the coast of Donostia San Sebastian, outside the bay, there are 2 options: the boat route to Pasaia and the boat route to Pasaia, Hondarribia and Hendaye. We leave you a small summary of all the maritime routes.

The island of Donostia San Sebastian, the Santa Clara Island.

The island of Donostia San Sebastian, Santa Clara Island, is a magical, special place. With an area of 32,000 square meters and 48 meters above sea level, this wonder of nature represents a small natural paradise in the heart of La Concha Bay. A space that, in addition to offering us a nice walk, also invites us to enjoy the sea thanks to its multiple services (bathrooms, showers, lifeguards…). Boats from Donostia San Sebastian.

Currently, the motorboats of the island have 3 boats: Aitona Julian (traditional wooden boat), Gure aitona Angel and Aitona Julian II. These last two have underwater vision, which, although the Bay of Biscay sometimes does not allow us to enjoy it because of its intensity, it is always grateful to have this possibility. These are boats designed specifically for maritime routes in the Bay of La Concha. 2 boats manufactured in 2010 and 2015 that offer us underwater vision, comfort and stability in all the routes they offer us. Safe boats that will make us enjoy the Concha Bay as we have never done before.

Motorcycles of the Island.

Tradition and history treasure this Basque family business. Since 1942, the port of Donostia San Sebastian has counted on this family business that, generation after generation, has dedicated its efforts to linking the island with the mainland. At the beginning, in its origins, Julian Isturiz, founder of the company that today we know as Motoras de la Isla, offered this service in a boat of just 8 meters long and 4 tons (Belmonte I), today, they have several boats and lead in maritime transport of people in the capital of Gipuzkoa. This is the evolution of a family business that has been present in the life of all the people of San Sebastian:

  • In 1958, Julián decided to build a new boat of more than 9 meters in length to be able to transport twice as many passengers during his boat routes, this was the boat known as Belmonte II.
  • In 1983, Angel Isturiz took command of Motoras de la Isla and built “Aitona Julian”, a vessel of more than 12 meters in length and with a capacity to transport almost 100 people.
  • In 2000, the first polyester passenger ship, Antxeta, was added to the fleet.
  • In 2010, a new boat, Gure Aitona Angel, was incorporated. A boat of 14 meters in length that for the first time incorporates 2 large crystals in the bottom of the boat to enjoy the underwater vision.
  • In 2015, the construction of the Aitona Julian II is commissioned. Capable of transporting 140 people in a single trip. This boat with underwater vision is the largest of all the boats available in this family business.

As you can see, tradition and history come together in this passenger shipping company from Donostia San Sebastian. A family company with deep roots and presence in the Basque Country.
