Eureka Zientzia Museoa, also known as the science museum, is one of the most dynamic and entertaining museums in the Basque Country. A space of more than 8,000 square meters, located in the Miramon Technology Park, about 10 minutes from the center of Donostia San Sebastian, invites us to enjoy a great day out with the family. The museum is designed so that everyone, regardless of their age, can learn while enjoying themselves. The different interactive systems that we find throughout the tour, invite us to learn while we have a great time. In addition to spaces such as the permanent exhibition and the temporary exhibition, Eureka! Zientzia Museoa also has spaces that are out of the usual dynamics of museums. And it is here, in the science museum, where we have seen for the first time, shows as a permanent part of a museum. Curious and very successful, we loved them! Believe it or not, the science museum invites us to touch, play and experiment with more than 160 modules scattered throughout its rooms. It’s time to interact. In short, this museum presents in a very attractive way some of the basic concepts of science so that we can learn by playing. Sounds good, doesn’t it? The permanent exhibition invites us to visit 8 spaces where we find different aspects of science, while the other spaces such as the planetarium, the astronomical observatory or the simulator room provide other points of view. The fact that in its gardens we find picnic areas, a playground, the collection of models of historic buildings of Gipuzkoa, a cafeteria and free parking, makes the science museum has everything you need to spend a great family day.

The environment surrounding the science museum of Donostia San Sebastian has a great natural value. A stimulating space, which helps to make the science museum a perfect family plan. Remember, manipulating objects and experimenting are the main objectives of this museum, so, as long as it does not say otherwise, we encourage you to do so.

Visit: First of all, we would like to add that the visit to the science museum, Eureka! Zientzia Museoa, is one of the most surprising in recent times. An activity recommended for all ages, which perfectly complements any educational program in which the basic concepts of science are explained. The museum tells us that the recommended age is from 4 years old, although in our humble opinion, we believe that it may be too early to enjoy this space 100%.

It is very important to keep the entrance ticket to the science museum. Remember that you can go in and out as many times as you want during the same day.

In this section we will only talk about the museum, leaving aside the independent rooms such as the planetarium, the observatory or the simulator room. The visit to Eureka! Zientzia Museoa is free, at our own pace. We decide which spaces to dedicate more time to and which less. In our opinion, they are all worth visiting. Throughout the museum there are 8 rooms in which we find more than 160 modules that put into practice some scientific concept that is part of our daily life.

Test yourself: In this section located on the top floor, we find multiple devices that test us. How much we are able to jump, how much we are able to bend our body, how many reflexes we have and some other surprises. A very curious and entertaining place.
Human Body: Biological, anatomical and genetic elements make up this space, one of the rooms that personally attracted us the least.
Plastination: Don’t be fooled by the name, this section may be sensitive for some people. According to what we are told, all the elements in this room come from people who decided to donate their bodies to science. In it we find elements in which the smallest detail of the human body can be appreciated to perfection. If you were curious to know the entrails of humans and other animals, this space will answer many of your questions.
Light games: Light is an essential element in our daily lives. In the science museum we are shown its different properties by means of attractive light games. Our reflections and shadows play an important role in this section of the museum.
Spaceship earth: In this space we are shown the different phenomena that occur on planet earth. The different effects that the universe creates on the earth are often overlooked by its inhabitants.
Sparks of energy: Electricity, one of the most common scientific phenomena in our daily lives, has its own room. A place where we are invited to learn about electricity and magnetism through practice. Would you like to play?
Mechanical world: Physics is present from the moment we get out of bed until we go to bed. And if we think about it, many of the facilities we have today would not be possible without physics.
Animalia: This room aims to show us the different ecosystems that surround us to raise awareness of the importance of caring for nature. Unfortunately, many of the spaces provided for the different species seemed insufficient.

As you can see, Eureka! Zientzia Museoa offers us one of the most demanded spaces by families. A museum where we can learn while we play.

Shows: One of the great attractions of Eureka! Zientzia Museoa are the shows. The different rooms that we find during the tour have practical demonstrations in different languages. We recommend that you take this aspect into account when planning your visit to the science museum. These shows are performed in different languages and at different times, making it not always possible to attend all of them. We highlight the electricity show, we loved it. Highly recommended.

Complex: Eureka! Zientzia Museoa, encompasses several spaces in one. In addition to the science museum, we also find other places such as the astronomical observatory, the simulator room and the planetarium. 3 places that are not included in the museum itinerary and have their own rates. The astronomical observatory, located in the highest part of the 30-meter tower that we find at our arrival, has 2 powerful telescopes that are used for astronomy courses and night guided tours. On the other hand, the simulator room encourages us to enjoy formula 1, motorcycling, spaceships or roller coasters, among others. Finally, the planetarium projects different 3D documentaries on its dome. By the way, in case you are interested in the menus of the restaurant of the science museum, know that they have an approximate price of about 18 € on weekends. We did not try them, so we can not comment.

How to get there: Getting to Eureka! Zientzia Museoa is very easy thanks to the different accesses that we find and the different bus lines that arrive at its door. If you come by private transport, the science museum has a large free parking lot where we can leave our vehicles. Otherwise, if you come by public transport, the bus stop is less than 5 minutes walk away. If you arrive on your own, remember that you should always go to the Miramon Technology Park, next to the hospitals. Price: The price of this Basque museum varies depending on the spaces you want to visit. The minimum price is 10 € for adults and 7 € for children between 4 and 18 years. A rate that, although at first it may seem out of place, somewhat excessive, we can assure you that it is not. And is that more than 2 hours during which we discover every corner of this museum and the originality of each of its modules, argue perfectly the cost of this rate. The only drawback we find when analyzing the value for money of this Basque museum is the fact that rooms such as the simulators or the planetarium have an extra cost. This aspect makes the whole visit more expensive for this great experience. Bringing families closer to science should not be so expensive. An aspect that, in our point of view, should be improved. Although the different fees to pay to enter the planetarium, the simulator room or the astronomical observatory seem a bit excessive, it does not mean that we do not recommend visiting them. We know that each and every one of the spaces has great initiatives for the little ones to learn while having fun.
