The American network, owned by Time Warner, has chosen the coast of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa to shoot the scenes that will give life to a new location of the 7 kingdoms, Rocadragon. During the months of September and October 2016, we have been lucky enough to have Jon Snow(Kit Harington), Tyrion Lannister(Peter Dinklage), Daenerys Targaryen(Emilia Clarke), Lord Davos(Liam Cunningham), Missandei(Nathalie Emmanuel) and the rest of the cast of Game of Thrones among us, in the Basque Country. The fans of the series can rest assured, they were treated wonderfully and had a great time, you only have to see their different profiles on social networks to attest to this. 
After a couple of hours of flight, the actors, actresses and other people immersed in the filming of Game of Thrones arrived in the Basque Country from Ireland to continue filming the chapters of the seventh season. The 3 locations chosen in the Basque Country respond to coastal spaces of great personality and charisma, places, which we have been able to see on the small screen during the summer of 2017, with the world premiere of the seventh season. The order of filming of the scenes chosen by HBO has been Barrika (Bizkaia), San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Bizkaia) and Zumaia (Gipuzkoa), a nice route to enjoy the Basque coast, the route of Game of Thrones in Euskadi.
Barrika: The small Biscayan town of Barrika, has lent the Muriola beach for the shooting. The sandy area, protected by large cliffs, responds to the type of “wild” scenarios that we are used to seeing in the American production. The walk along the coast of Barrika is, together with its beaches and wild coves, one of the most striking charms of the municipality.
San Juan de GaztelugatxeThis emblematic corner of our coast has been decorated with historical motifs for the filming of the production, remaining closed to the public during the shooting, a small improvisation that has disrupted the plans of many tourists. The hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe disappears from the scene to make way for the Rocadracon castle, but the rest of the enclave appears intact in different frames of the HBO star series.

Zumaia: Itzurun beach in Zumaia has become the enclave chosen to give life to another of the paradises of George R. R. Martin’s novel. This town in the province of Gipuzkoa continues to enchant the most successful television producers of the moment. Game of Thrones is going to make known at an international level the same corners that other productions such as “8 Basque surnames”, “Haundiya” or Lasa and Zabala made known at a national level. On this occasion, this Basque enclave merges with San Juan de Gaztelugatxe to give life to Rocadragon, and both the beach of Zumaia and its cliffs were chosen for the landing of the bastard of Winterfell, Jon Snow, on his visit to the mother of dragons.
Geoparkea, the geopark of the coast of Gipuzkoa, one of the most beautiful areas of our coast and one of the most important geological treasures of the Basque Country, will once again host a filming, another story to add to the rock formations that keep the history of the earth.

Bardenas Reales Natural Park: Our beloved Bardenas offered the seven kingdoms an arid and unique space to film what has undoubtedly been the most striking shooting of Game of Thrones in the Basque Country. More than 1,500 people, more than 70 horses and marathon shooting days were necessary to create the right environment to accommodate Daenerys Targaryen and the Dothraki. The Martin Berasategui Restaurant was joined by the Nerua Restaurant at the Guggenheim Museum and the Mina Restaurant, two centrally located restaurants in Bilbao, awarded with 1 Michelin star.
