Tejera de Murueta.
The Murueta tile factory is one of the most special elements of the municipality. A structure that began to exploit the clays of Urdaibai for the manufacture of ceramic elements (tiles and bricks) in 1892. Although it was born under the name La Estrella, with time, the company was renamed Aurrera y Cerámicas de Murueta. We must remember that this factory was an authentic industrial revolution in Murueta and Urdaibai. An industry that had its own halt and wharf for the transport of goods. Although this company ceased its activity in 1931, we can still contemplate the old Hoffman oven and its 32 meters high chimney. Thanks to its rehabilitation, the Tejera de Murueta has become one of the best representatives of the Urdaibai industry.
Murueta jetties.
The jetties of Murueta that we have published in our social networks have nothing to do with the original jetty used by the weaving mill for the transport of goods. Even so, the beauty and simplicity of these wooden piers attract hundreds of people to the area. These structures are reminiscent of those found in Deba and many other towns along the Basque coast. Remember that during our guided tours we do not use these piers, we use the modern jetty that we find just 10 meters away. Much more practical and accessible.
