Route to the Bolunzulo waterfall.
The route to the waterfall of Bolunzulo begins in the parking lot of the cave of Santimamiñe, opposite the entrance of the restaurant Lezika. From here we enter the local road that takes us directly to Oma. A linear route with several slopes that we will cross by a kind of sidewalk or bidegorri. In any case, it is a road where only the neighbors can circulate, reason why it does not have much traffic.
Once we take that kind of sidewalk, the route is not lost. Just follow the signs to Oma until you reach the hermitage of San Pedro. From here, we continue 150 meters before turning left and crossing a small narrow stone bridge.
Very close to the bridge, about 80 meters away, hidden among the vegetation, we find the ruins of the old Bolunzulo mill (XVI century). To reach this magical place we only have to follow the riverbed. Today, the water channel that fed the mill has created a space of great natural value. A magical little corner, that we recommend you to visit in any visit to Urdaibai. The best perspective of the place is obtained going down to the riverbed itself. For it we have to save several slopes. Be careful. And it is that although there is a stretch of stairs that facilitates the descent, we also find a stretch that forces us to use our hands to avoid falling.
But the road does not end at this place. And if we follow the path, we find the second of the mills next to the Bolunzulo sinkhole. It is here where the Oma river enters the karst of the Ereñozar massif. To return to the point of origin we must return by the same path. Remember that you can also visit the mill and the waterfall of Bolunzulo doing a circular route of about 6 km (PR-BI 180). A route of medium difficulty that takes us to the vicinity of the Oma Forest.

Bolunzulo waterfall and mill.
Although today we always refer to the Bolunzulo mill as a single structure, this is not the case. In the district of Oma (Kortezubi) there are 2 mills. Both structures were built in the 16th century and were active until almost the middle of the 20th century. At present, the 2 mills are in ruins, giving way to nature. Next to these ruins, on one side, we find the Bolunzulo waterfall surrounded by the vegetation that has taken over the place. Thus creating a unique, magical space.

Where to park.
We recommend you to park your vehicles in the parking lot of the cave of Santimamiñe. Not to be confused with the parking lot of the Lezika restaurant. Although they are next to each other, the restaurant’s parking lot is only for its customers. Remember that the parking lot we recommend is shared by people who make the route to the waterfall of Bolunzulo, people who visit Basondo, people who make the route to the forest of Oma and people who visit the cave of Santimamiñe. For this reason, we recommend getting up early to do any of these activities.
Where to eat.
The Lezika restaurant is the perfect place to get your strength back after the route. A bar and restaurant, which offers from rations to the menu, including pintxos and menus. In summer, its terrace is another of its great attractions.
As you have seen, the Bolunzulo waterfall is one of those magical places that exist in Euskadi. If you have any questions, we encourage you to use the comment system below these lines to send them to us. We will try to respond as soon as possible. Ondo pasa!
