Meñakoz beach is located between the towns of Sopela and Barrika, on the coast of Bizkaia. It is a wild beach, nudist and surfer. A natural, quiet and secluded spot, which offers a great alternative to the crowded beaches of the Basque coast. The cliffs that protect Meñakoz are another of its great attractions. We must remember that we are in the Flysch of Bizkaia, a stretch of Basque coast where geological formations allow us to discover the history of the land. In this beach the sand is scarce and the stones are abundant. A paradise for surf lovers, to which thousands of surfers make a pilgrimage throughout the year. Surf.
Meñakoz beach is one of the meccas of surfing in Euskadi. A right wave, which has become on its own merits one of the most desired “big waves” in Europe. A mastodon of up to 6 meters, which is only recommended for the most experienced surfers. This wave of great strength, tubular sections and rocky bottom, breaks in front of the cliffs, characteristics that make it as desirable as dangerous. Be careful.

How to get to Meñakoz.
To reach the beach of Meñakoz we recommend using the road that connects much of the Biscayan coast between the towns of Getxo and Plentzia (BI-2122). You can also get there by public transport using the Bizkaibus line A3451 (Areeta – Armintza). The pedestrian access that takes us directly to Meñakoz was cut after some landslides that we had a few years ago. Since then, the state of access limits the arrival of people of all ages and conditions to the shore of this beach. We recommend you to access with closed shoes, the slope and the stones can play a trick on you. 
Recommendations.

- We recommend you to check the tides, since the surface of this beach is not very wide.
- Camping is prohibited.
- It is convenient to access with closed shoes to be able to go down to the beach without any problem.
- The parking lot of this beach is very small, only a dozen vehicles can enter, we recommend you to get up early.
- The currents, the wind and the rocky bottom make it a beach recommended only for experts. In addition, there is no lifeguard service, so be very careful.
