Boat trip to Elantxobe, sea route in Urdaibai.
The boat route to Elantxobe is part of the boat trips that depart from the port of Bermeo. A maritime route that allows us to know some of the most striking and beautiful areas of the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai. A clear example of this is the island of Izaro, the Ogoño Cove or the idyllic villages of Elantxobe and Mundaka. An excursion that, together with the boat route to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (scene of Game of Thrones in the Basque Country), represents one of the most popular sea tours in Bizkaia. In this sense, although the fame of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe unbalances the balance in favor of this one, we believe that the route that we present today is somewhat more complete and interesting. Do you dare to check it out in first person?

We must point out that during this tour we do not go ashore at any time, we visit all the areas from the sea. Thus offering us a totally different perspective to the one we are used to in our day to day life. We are fortunate to have visited all these places from land and sea, thus obtaining a global perspective of all of them. We encourage you to do the same, it is worth it.
Boat route to Elantxobe.
This route starts from the port of Bermeo, from the jetty near the Olatua sculpture by Nestor Basterretxea, next to the port parking lot. This pontoon and the proximity of the parking lot, facilitates the passage of strollers and wheelchairs to the boat itself. And we must remember that the boats that make these routes are adapted for all audiences.
From here, we set course to the largest island of Euskadi, Izaro. A protected area, where we find the largest colony of seabirds of the Basque coast. As we pass by it, we can see the remains of the old Franciscan convent that existed at one end of the island. Did you know that the friars lived only on seagull eggs and the fish they caught?
We leave this island behind to discover the cape of Ogoño, a gigantic limestone mass of more than 200 meters, which protects the picturesque village of Elantxobe. We have already told you about this space on several occasions, the last one, during our walking route to Ogoño. In this case, the perspective from the sea is totally different from the one we get from the top. A point of view that perfectly complements the impressive panoramic views that we enjoy from its highest point. If you can, we encourage you to enjoy the 2 points of view, it is worth it.
Next stop Elantxobe. This urban nucleus is located on the cliff itself. Its steep streets lead to the port, one of the most important areas of the town. The fishermen of Ibarrangelu used to come and go from their homes to where the port is today, until one day they decided to avoid this journey by building their homes next to the port itself. This is how this picturesque and charming village on the Basque coast was born. Curious, isn’t it?
As a final point, we will head to Mundaka, another of those towns that you will fall in love with just by enjoying its port and historic center. An urban center, which is internationally known for offering surfers one of the best left waves in Europe. A few minutes from the old town, towards Bermeo, we find the chapel of Santa Catalina, one of the great icons of the town. From this point we head towards the port of Bermeo, where our adventure ends.

Where to park.
At the end of the port, next to the sculpture Olatua (wave in Basque), we find 2 free parking lots to leave our vehicles. Unfortunately, in the summer season they tend to hang the full sign easily. In these cases, we recommend that you park your vehicles in the parking lot next to the soccer field of the town, in the upper part.
