Alto de Urbina Route.
Although you can also access to the cross of Alto de Urbina from the town of Ullibarri-Gamboa, the route from the dam is much nicer. In fact, it is the route that we recommend. The route begins at the side of the parking lot in front of the dam. The first section of the route may seem a bit hard for the smallest of the house, but do not worry, in 500 meters the slope decreases.
Once at the top, we must follow the path along the edge of several agricultural plots for about 300 meters before entering the forest. From this point we begin to have stunning views of the Ullibarri Gamboa reservoir.
We continue climbing gradually for about 1 kilometer until we reach a crossroads. It is here where our path and the one that goes up from the town of Ullibarri Gamboa merge. We walk the last 100 meters until we reach the cross of Alto de Urbina, the big cross. Do not confuse this cross with the cross popularly known as “La Cruz Chiquita de Urbina”. From this point we find beautiful views of the Ullibarri Gamboa reservoir, the Urrunaga reservoir and the city of Vitoria Gasteiz. How to get there.
The best option to reach the vicinity of the Ullibarri Gamboa dam is the A-3002 road. Whether you are staying in Vitoria Gasteiz itself or if you are coming from outside. Remember that the parking lot from which the route starts is located on the side of this road. If you choose this option, you will reach the reservoir in less than 20 minutes from the capital of Alava.
