Route along the wooden footbridge of Artxanda, the footbridge of Mount Banderas (officially Mount Elorriaga).
The Artxanda wooden footbridge links Enekuri with the Artxanda viewpoint promenade. A 1.5 km walkway, which will soon be joined by a new 1.3 km long walkway that will link Enekuri with Elorrieta. Thus, the City Council of Bilbao, aims to link the estuary with the so-called Green Belt of Bilbao. A project that will allow us to go up to Artxanda from the estuary of Bilbao, from Elorrieta. Route to Artxanda along the wooden walkways.
As you can see, in the near future, this route will consist of 2 twin walkways. A total distance of 2.8 km, which will allow us to climb comfortably from the vicinity of the estuary to Artxanda, from Elorrieta (Deusto). We must indicate that both footbridges have a minimum width of 2 meters, which facilitates access to people with reduced mobility. In fact, we met 2 people in wheelchairs. Once at the top, we will have the opportunity to follow the path along the Artxanda viewpoint walk or return the same way, you choose. In any case, we recommend you to enjoy the views, they are breathtaking.

Viewpoint of Cabras Mountain.
At the top of Mount Cabras, 400 meters from both walkways, we find a viewpoint that offers incredible views of Greater Bilbao. A 360-degree panoramic view, which, on clear days, offers a beautiful perspective of Bilbao and the mouth of the estuary. And if we look closely, we can enjoy the urban centers of Portugalete, Santurtzi or Getxo among others.

Viewpoints of Mount Banderas (Elorriaga).
Although Mount Banderas (officially Mount Elorriaga) does not have a viewpoint at its summit like Mount Cabras, it has magnificent views along its entire walkway. Moreover, the walkway has 2 viewpoints where you can enjoy the views while resting. At these points, the railings have been replaced by tempered glass so that we can enjoy the views of the city.

How to get there.
The lower part of the Enekuri wooden footbridge is located next to the scrapyard, in front of the Esclavas del Sagrado Corazón de Fátima school, next to the pedestrian bridge on the BI-604 road. To reach this point, the city council has tendered another wooden platform that will start from Elorrieta and will communicate with the recently inaugurated platform. For now, until the Elorrieta platform is active, we must make do with accessing the Enekuri platform from near the Sarriko metro station. If we arrive from outside Bilbao, we recommend leaving the car at the top of Enekuri, next to the car dealerships.

Controversy.
When we published the photos of the footbridge in our social networks, we received many comments against this project. Most of them argued that aesthetically they had destroyed Mount Banderas (officially Mount Elorriaga). But we also found people in favor of this wooden walkway. Since it is accessible, it is the only viable access to Artxanda for people with reduced mobility. As you can see, the controversy is served. What do you think? We encourage you to leave us a comment. We read you.
