Recreational park.
This natural park has a total area of 45 hectares, being the reservoir the main protagonist. Surrounding this sheet of water we find an autochthonous forest formed by oaks, ash trees and maples next to an area of swings and barbecues. There is also a barbecue with terrace, a place that gains many points in summer.

Circular route to the Mendikosolo reservoir.
The circular route of the Mendikosolo reservoir is designed for the youngest of the house. A route of approximately 1.5 km in which starting from the parking lot, we will pass by the barbecue and the swings to finish completely surrounding the reservoir. Route to the hermitage of San Pedro de Abrisketa.
If your idea is to do a more demanding route, we encourage you to complement the previous route going up the Goikiri stream to San Pedro de Abrisketa. We can also do a route up to Venta Alta. As you can see there are different options for hiking routes. By the way, in winter, after the rains, the path fills with mud and complicates the access. Be careful.

Where to eat.
People who come to Mendikosolo usually choose to eat in the area of grills and tables around the reservoir itself. However, if you do not want to cook, you can go to the Mendikosolo grill. A restaurant that has a typical menu of the Biscayan breweries (salad, croquettes, peppers, chicken…). This place gains extra points in summer, when the heat makes its terrace gain great prominence.
Where to park.
There are 2 parking lots. The main parking lot is located 500 meters from the park, next to the main road, and has just over 150 spaces (including bus spaces). On the other hand, the secondary parking lot is located just 280 meters away and has about 100 spaces. Both are free and are usually full in summer.
How to get there.
Although the best option is private transport, we can also opt for public transport. And we must remember that the 2 existing public transport options at the moment (bus and suburban train) leave us more than 20 minutes walk from Mendikosolo. In any case, we leave you the detail of both options:
- TrainThe best option is the suburban line C3. A route that connects the capital of Bizkaia with Orduña. In this case we must stop in Arrigorriaga and from there head towards Mendikosolo passing by the local soccer field.
- BusIn this case, the best options are to use the Bizkaibus lines that connect Arrigorriaga with some of the most important areas of the province of Bizkaia. For example: Lines A3613, A3622, A3632, A3641.
