The restaurant La Escotilla and its rice menu are, without a doubt, one of the best options to eat in Vitoria Gasteiz. This proposal of the chef Josean Merino, boasts raw materials fresh from the port. Curiously, despite being less than 1 hour from our coast, they discard the Basque ports. And according to their own website, the seafood and fish they use come from the ports of Vigo, Cambrils or Sanlúcar. In any case, we really liked their proposal. This restaurant located in the center of the city has specialized in rice, fish and seafood, gaining great fame over time. Do you know it?

The rice menu is one of the proposals with the best value for money of the restaurant La Escotilla. In fact, it is the most demanded menu of the restaurant. Remember that this menu is only served from Monday to Friday at noon (full table). Although the menu and its cost are subject to change by the establishment, this is the menu we enjoyed (from 23,5€ person).

The menu includes loaf bread, white wine Verdejo Hombre pez or young red wine Mitarte. Of course, a maximum of half a bottle of wine per person. Pay attention to the menu, as some rice dishes have a supplement. It is not a menu of many dishes, nor of large quantities, but it is a menu of quality. We enjoyed each and every one of the dishes we tasted. We highly recommend it. If you dare to try this menu, remember that reservations are necessary, the place is small and usually fills up easily.

The restaurant La Escotilla, was opened in the center of Vitoria Gasteiz in 2016. The place, which barely has 10 tables, also offers a good terrace and a small bar. And it is here, at the bar, where La Escotilla also wins many points. And is that their pintxos follow the same line as their dishes: very careful creations. A good example of this can be found in their red tuna thallus. In any case, after more than 6 years, La Escotilla has become the fashionable place to taste a good rice in the capital of Alava.

The Hirviendo restaurant group is the owner of PerretxiCo and La Escotilla, both run by chef Josean Merino. The first of the premises, PerretxiCo, specializes in pintxo-based menus. While the second one specializes in seafood and rice dishes. Although these are 2 great options to eat in Vitoria Gasteiz, we must emphasize that they are not cheap.
