The Chorretón waterfall is one of the many waterfalls found in the region of Enkarterri, in the extreme northwest of the province of Bizkaia, on the border between Cantabria and Euskadi. The Calera river, the great protagonist of this waterfall, enters La Calera del Prado, a small and remote urban center of the municipality of Karrantza, rushing and creating a series of waterfalls that create an incredible natural space. Route to the Chorretón waterfall.

This route starts from the bus stop of La Calera del Prado and has practically no lost. Of course, during the route there are a couple of detours, we recommend that you read this section carefully to follow the route correctly. Once at the bus stop we must follow the road until we reach the hermitage which is about 200 meters away. In front of the hermitage, we find a track that gently ascends the slope of the valley. We start to climb.

At 250 meters we find the first of the detours, we continue ahead (path on the right). We cross the first cattle fence (remember to close it after passing). We follow the track.

After 600 meters we find a livestock shelter. We pass by its side and we find a new detour, we turn right again.

We cross a new animal fence and enter a wetland area where ferns abound. After passing this area we enter the forest through a narrow path that leads directly to the waterfall Chorretón.

Remember that the route has several stretches where mud and cow poop are mixed creating a complicated trail to walk. A situation that is even more complicated in the rainy season. We recommend you to bring hiking shoes and trekking poles.

How to get there.

The space that we present today is located on the border between Cantabria and Euskadi, in fact, to reach La Calera del Prado we can access from both Euskadi and Cantabria. Although there are different options to reach the vicinity of the Chorretón waterfall, the best option is to head for Lanestosa and from there to La Calera del Prado (Karrantza) along the N-629 road. In any case, whichever option you choose, you must bear in mind that this is a very rural area. The roads are narrow and not in the best conditions. Caution. As it is an area located in the extreme northwest of the province of Bizkaia, there are notorious distances from any point of our territory. For example, to arrive from Bilbao we need something more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. Even so, it is worth it.

Where to park.

We must take into account that the route begins in La Calera del Prado, a very small urban center where there is no parking. That said, the best option to leave our car and not disturb the neighbors is in the lower part of the village, next to the road, on the shoulder.
