Route to the Uguna Waterfall.
The route that we present today begins in the parking lot of the Saldropo Wetland. From here we must look for the track that leaves the parking lot towards Zeanuri (before it was signposted but the last times we have done this route the sign had disappeared). To do this we must take the first track that we find on the right.
About 400 meters, the concrete track that runs between pine forests becomes a path of “all one” (stones). We continue straight on. After 300 meters, when the road turns to the right, we must turn off onto a path that starts on the left side and enters the forest.
It is a stone and dirt path that descends through trees for about 500 meters. We must follow this path until the sound of water calls our attention. And it is that when we reach a curve that turns left, we will find to our right a beautiful forest of beech trees where we must turn off again. We go down among centennial beeches and stone masses until we see the waterfall.
We are on one of the sides of the Uguna Waterfall. From here, we must descend along a narrow, steep and slippery path until we reach the base of the waterfall. As you can see, from this point the path tends to become more complicated. Be careful. Especially in winter.
As we descend the slope we find natural viewpoints, which, strategically located at different heights, provide us with different perspectives of this beautiful waterfall. We must indicate that in addition to enjoying this waterfall from its base and from the different viewpoints that we find on the slope, we can also do it from the top of the waterfall, although in our opinion it is not worth it.
The route is not signposted, so we recommend that you follow our directions at all times. As you have been able to see, it is a very simple route until the beginning of the descent to the waterfall. We recommend you to carry hiking poles to be able to make the descent in complete safety. Be careful.
If this route is not enough for you, you should know that you can walk all the way by car from the N-240 road if you leave your vehicle at the Alto de Barazar, next to the Barazar bar and restaurant.
How to get to Uguna.
We recommend using the N-240 road to reach the Alto de Barazar, from where we turn towards Gorbeia Natural Park. We leave the road behind to enter a concrete track that runs through pine forests to reach the parking Saldropo. Along the way, we will find the Otzarreta beech forest detour, but this time we will continue straight ahead until we reach the Saldropo wetland parking.
Where to park.
The Saldropo parking lot is the best option for parking near the Uguna waterfall. A parking lot with capacity for about 30 – 40 vehicles that in summer becomes overflowing. Once again, it is advisable to get up early to be able to park our vehicle easily. If you do not find space, you can choose to leave the car in the beech forest of Otzarreta and walk to Saldropo (40 minutes approximately).
