Senda Verde de Delika, family route at the foot of the Salto del Nervión.
The Senda Verde de Delika, the route that links Amurrio and the Delika Canyon, offers us a family tour through one of the most striking natural landscapes of Araba. This trail is part of the many family routes in Euskadi that we suggest you enjoy. Do you dare to know the Delika Green Trail with us?
This route runs through oak and beech trees while we enjoy the famous Nervión waterfall as a backdrop. A paradisiacal place that encourages us to enjoy nature in its purest form. If you still do not know the Salto del Nervión, we recommend reading our article “Salto del Nervión, how to get there, what routes to do, when to visit and where to park“. Undoubtedly another of the great places that we recommend you to visit in Araba. We must emphasize that this route does not take us to the lower part of the Salto del Nervión, since the path only goes to the beginning of the canyon. In case you want to get to the Salto del Nervión, you must continue up the river along an unmarked route that becomes more complex as we advance. We do not recommend it. Or at least not for families.

Although the route through the Delika Canyon has existed since time immemorial, after the conditioning of the terrain, a circular route has been promoted, which has been baptized with the name of the Delika Green Trail. A route that we highly recommend. Especially in autumn.
Delika Green Trail Route.
Although the route that we must follow during the Senda Verde de Delika is signposted at all times (blue marks), we wanted to make a brief summary to give you an idea of what awaits you in this small corner of Euskadi. This route of almost 5 kilometers starts from the urban center of Delika and goes up the course of the river until reaching the beginning of the canyon of Delika.
As we have indicated, we must leave the car at the beginning of the village, in the parking lot enabled for this route. We continue along the main street without turning off until we reach the end of the village. At this point, we must turn right and pass under the huge stone bridge over which the train passes.
At 50 meters, we find a metal gate on the right hand side, remember to close the gate after passing. We continue along this track for about 350 meters until we find a small viewpoint on the left that allows us to enjoy the waterfalls in chain that are created in the rainy season.
We continue another 350 meters until we reach a sign that indicates 2 possible options. We are at the point where the Senda Verde de Delika becomes a circular route. In our case, we decide to opt for the left path and return to the right. But either of the 2 is valid.
If you choose to follow our steps, you will find the stone bridge of Zalborondo, it is time to cross the river. It is here, next to this bridge where we find the rest and recreation area equipped with tables to enjoy a good hamaiketako. A good option for people who plan to eat in the surroundings.
We follow the path, it is time to climb, we gain altitude. We leave the woods behind and begin to walk along large fields. The views begin to attract our attention.
We follow the path until we descend to the riverbed. At this point we have to cross again to be able to return on the opposite bank. Unfortunately, in winter, when the flow rises, it is very difficult to cross the river. Caution.
At this point, many people decide to abandon the route and continue up the river to try to reach the foot of the Salto del Nervión. You should know that this section does not belong to the green path that we present today, so the path is not signposted. In addition, we must emphasize that the path becomes more complicated as we advance. Especially in the rainy season. We do not recommend it.
On the other shore awaits another of the surprises of this route, another waterfall. We recommend you to access it through a path that makes its way along its right side. Of course, it is narrow and with a certain slope. Be careful.
After enjoying this waterfall we continue the path. We gain height again. We return to enjoy beautiful views of the Delika canyon. We continue descending until we reach again the stone bridge of Zalborondo. Once at this point we just have to retrace our steps until we reach the starting point.
Delika Greenway Recommendations.
After walking every meter that makes up this beautiful green trail, we believe it is important to make several recommendations. We hope you find them helpful. If not, we encourage you to leave us a comment with your doubts at the end of this article. We will try to respond as soon as possible.
- We recommend you to bring water or any other hydrating liquid.
- In winter, when the flow increases, it is not always possible to cross the river to make the circular route. Caution.
- Although the route can be extended to the lower part of the Salto del Nervión, we do not recommend it.
- In summer season the parking lot at the beginning of the village can be crowded, in these cases, we recommend you to leave the car at the end of the village.
- There is a rest and recreation area with tables in the middle of the route, it can be a good place for a hamaiketako.
- If you are looking for experiences or accommodation in Euskadi we recommend you to visit our reservation center.
- In summer, the flow decreases and the waterfalls that we find along the route disappear.
- Mountain poles can be of great help when crossing the river.
Where to park on the Delika Greenway.
Along with the development of this route, a small parking lot has been created at the beginning of Delika. A space that has the capacity to accommodate half a dozen cars. In case this parking lot is full, we recommend you to leave the car at the end of the village, near the stone bridge over which the train runs.
Video of the Delika Greenway.

Where to sleep near Delika.
Although the accommodation that we propose is not located in Amurrio or Orduña, we believe that it is well worth the trip. And the fact is that these wooden cabins make us feel at home. Located in the middle of nature, 20 minutes from Delika, this accommodation meets everything we are looking for. A good, nice and cheap establishment that we recommend you to book at the best price and securely from our reservation center, from here.
What to see near the Delika Greenway.
Near Delika there are a good number of interesting places to visit. In this section we propose some of the ones we like the most. Although there are hundreds of places to visit in the vicinity of the Delika Greenway, there is not always time to enjoy them all.

Future projects for the Delika Greenway.
The refurbishment carried out so far by the Provincial Council of Araba is part of the first action of implementation of this Delika project. But not the last. According to what we are told, the second action could include the construction of a Tibetan bridge of more than 60 meters long. For all those people who are not familiar with this type of construction, these are hanging footbridges, which, supported by ropes and wooden slats, allow us to cross canyons and large differences in level. On the other hand, according to the Araba Provincial Council, another action is also being studied to communicate the urban center of Orduña with the Delika Greenway. In any case, we are sure that in the near future we will have news. We recommend you to follow our Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube profiles so that you do not miss the news about this incredible family route.
