Route to the Xorroxin waterfall from Erratzu.

The current route was started to be designed in 2017 in order to limit the number of people visiting the Xorroxin waterfall. Also to eliminate the large number of vehicles that reached the small neighborhood of Gorostapolo. In short, to be able to protect this environment that we love so much. This circular and familiar route encourages us to go up the Iñarbegi river until we reach the Xorroxin waterfall. A route that runs through an Atlantic forest that we are sure you will fall in love with.tree tunnel on the road to xorroxin, Xorroxin waterfallThe route begins next to the parking lot that we find at the beginning of the village of Erratzu. Once at this point, we must follow the brown signs indicating “Xorroxin”. Although at first it may seem that we are lost, it is not so, the “official” route makes us wander through the village before reaching a bridge where we take the path to Xorroxin. From this point the route runs between trees and fields, a quiet and beautiful route that helps us to disconnect from the bustle of the big cities.xorroxin sign, Xorroxin waterfallAfter leaving behind some stairs and a fork, the road comes to a crossroads. It is the point where both routes meet, the one that starts from Erratzu and the one that starts from the Gorostapolo neighborhood. In any case, the route to follow is perfectly signposted. We turn left.crossroads, Xorroxin waterfallSoon we reach a small waterfall, which, although it has its own particular charm, has nothing to do with the Xorroxin waterfall. We cross a wooden bridge and continue on our way until we reach our destination. Although the left side is the best point from which to contemplate this waterfall, we recommend that you be very careful. It is a very wet area where the rocks and roots that we find along the way tend to slip. It is time to enjoy this small earthly paradise.xorroxin waterfall reflection, Xorroxin waterfall in Erratzu, Baztan Valley, Baztan Valley, SpainOn the way back, we must go back along the same path until we reach the crossroads that we have indicated before. This time we must take the road to Gorostapolo. Once we reach this small neighborhood, we must turn right to descend (along the road) to the center of Erratzu. Although this road does not usually have a lot of traffic, we recommend you to be very careful. Especially with children. road from gorostapolo to erratzu, waterfall of Xorroxin

Route to the Xorroxin waterfall from Gorostapolo.

Although the municipality of Baztan has modified the original route of the Xorroxin waterfall in order to control the capacity, the route from Gorostapolo is still active. In fact, the current route still passes through this neighborhood of Erratzu. Therefore, the old route of the Xorroxin waterfall is still an alternative to the “official” route, as long as we do not go by private vehicle. In this case, it is a linear route (round trip), which descends along a cobbled street (just after reaching Gorostapolo on the left hand side, next to the hermitage) until we reach the bridge that allows us to cross the Iñarbegi riverbed. From here, we will link with the track that arrives from the center of Erratzu to reach our destination. Attached are some of the characteristics of this route.

  • Type of route: Linear (round trip).
  • Duration: 1 hour.
  • Distance: 3 km
  • Where to park in Gorostapolo: No parking.
