Path of the Grazal stream in Sodupe, a beautiful route through the Triano Mountains.

Route of the Senda del arroyo Grazal.
The route that we present today starts from the parking lot in the neighborhood of Iorgi de Sodupe. From here we must walk 200 meters along the road (towards La Cuadra) until we reach the vertical signs with the colors (yellow and white) of the Small Routes. It is here, where we leave the road to enter the slope of the valley.
We walk next to small houses for about another 200 meters until we find a Canadian pass, we find the first crossing, we take the left option. We descend to the bed of the Grazal stream.
We continue along the track following the bed of the stream while enjoying the small waterfalls that we find on our way. After passing by the water tank we arrive at what used to be the quarry, nowadays converted into an open space with tables and benches where we can enjoy a good hamaiketako (lunch at 11:00 in the morning in Basque).
The trail continues winding along the creek until it reaches the vicinity of the mushroom cave (the name is due to the fact that in 1954 the land was exploited for mushroom extraction). It has been attested that this cavity housed human corpses, so it is believed to be a burial cave. To get to the cave itself we must take a detour along a path that climbs the hillside. It is a small and narrow stretch that in the rainy season is usually quite muddy. Be careful. Once in the cave you can enter the gallery, but we do not recommend it.
We follow the path until we find a metal footbridge that allows us to cross the riverbed. In the rainy season, it is common to find this walkway flooded, reason why we recommend wearing hiking shoes. Be careful.
After continuing up the stream we reach a point where we must cross the riverbed, we recommend you watch the video. In this case there is no footbridge to help us. On the other bank awaits us the cave of the iron door.
The trail continues to gain height along the riverbed until it reaches a point where we find a new detour. At this point we must choose the path to follow. We can continue climbing and go around the ravine or go down to the riverbed and cross the stream by means of a wooden footbridge. Both routes are marked with the signage of the small routes (yellow and white). We recommend the second option as long as the riverbed allows it. In any case, you should only follow the yellow and white signs that correspond to the small routes.
In both cases we reach the Lexartza neighborhood where we find the small and charming hermitage of San Bartolomé. From this point, there is also the possibility of climbing Mount Eretza (887 meters).
From here we must follow the small trail markers that lead us to turn off again. This time we turn right, we start to climb. We enter a wooded track.
Little by little we begin to descend. Under our feet we can see the town of Sodupe. It is at this point where we find a vertical sign indicating the detour to the neighborhood of Goikuria. We turn right.
After walking through narrow, muddy and muddy paths, we reach the vicinity of the Goikuria neighborhood. It is here where we find some of the best views of this route. It is time to enjoy.
We definitely go down to the Goikuria neighborhood, where we enjoy historic spaces such as the church of San Pedro and the Iturrega wash house.
Once down. We must turn left and follow the road until we reach the parking lot where we have parked our vehicle. There is no way to get lost.
How to get there.
This route starts from the Iorgi neighborhood of Sodupe, next to the parking lot that we find on the right side of the BI-3651 road, from here. To reach this point from Bilbao, we recommend you to use the Cadagua corridor (BI-636) and take exit 14. Once in the town center, the parking lot is 200 meters away.
Where to park.
Next to the main road of Sodupe, BI-3651, 200 meters from where the route begins, in the neighborhood of Iorgi, we find a parking lot for about 40 spaces where we can park our vehicles for free. You can check its location on Google maps here. Remember that this parking lot fills up easily, so we recommend you to get up early. In case you do not find space, we recommend you to follow the road until you reach the gas station, you will find 2 other parking lots where you can park.
