Javier Izarra’s culinary techniques workshop begins at the restaurant’s reception. It is here, where this Basque chef welcomes us inviting us to taste a glass of txakoli, a glass of wine or any other refreshment we feel like. A small detail with which Javier welcomes us to this gastronomic temple. Once all the participants have gathered, we go into the kitchen. It is time to know in detail some of the proposals of the restaurant Tamarises Izarra. We recommend you to take a pen to write down the tips with which Javier surprises us during the preparation of each of these appetizers, it is well worth it. During our gastronomic experience, Javier elaborated several traditional dishes from the Basque Country turning them into small appetizers. Miniature cuisine. Some bites, thanks to the type of cuisine made by this chef, current, with quality raw materials, respectful with the taste of the product, using innovative culinary techniques and aesthetically very attractive, fell in love with all those present. In our case, being a small group (6 people), Javier proposed us to taste each of the products prepared directly in the kitchen. In the rest of the cases, given the size of the kitchen and the number of attendees, this tasting usually takes place in the main dining room. The chef who leads this culinary experience, Javier Izarra, has a long career in the kitchen. After studying at the School of Hospitality, after passing through several gastronomic projects, Javier leads the Restaurant Tamarises Izarra. A historical establishment from Getxo, which, managed by this young Basque chef, is living a second youth. Izarra is not only in charge of this restaurant, he also collaborates with the prestigious chef Fernando Canales Etxanobe in several of the projects he has around the world. A gastronomic artist, who responds to the profile of the new Basque chefs, very prepared and with the maximum respect for the raw material. A person close and relaxed, with whom we have had the opportunity to enjoy this hour and a half of learning and anecdotes. In addition to lending his name to this establishment, Javier has wanted to give the Tamarises Izarra its own character, soul and body, a fact that, together with the impressive location of the restaurant, makes us enjoy each of its dishes to the fullest. The proposed cuisine follows the recipes of our aitites and amamas, of our grandfathers and grandmothers. Dishes of all the life, to which he inserts a personal touch of innovation. The Tamarises restaurant and hotel are an important part of the history of Getxo. An iconic establishment of the town with more than 100 years of history. Lounges, rooms and tables, have served for more than a century as tools to enjoy both locals and foreigners. A place to take into account in front of the calm waters of the Bay of Abra. An establishment, that during its golden age became the neuralgic point of the business and social life of all Bizkaia. The Lazcano family, owners of the original establishment, managed for decades this successful establishment located just 10 meters from the beach of Ereaga. In 2012, after a hard reform, this emblematic building was broken down into 3 different establishments: Petit Palace Hotel, Tamarises Bar – Terrace and Tamarises Izarra Restaurant. The latter, our protagonist today, managed by the successful Etxanobe / Antolin Group.

30€ per person. That is the established rate for this gastronomic experience. A price, which in our opinion, has a correct value for money. And is that, we must take into account that, in addition to being able to attend the many explanations of Javier Izarra, once the workshop is over, we have the opportunity to taste each of the dishes made during the activity. Located on the second floor of the Tamarises building, at number 4 of the Ereaga Pier, this incredible gastronomic establishment gives us the opportunity to learn about the culinary culture of Euskadi from a unique enclave. And is that, thanks to the huge panoramic window that offers us the dining room of Tamarises Izarra, after attending the culinary techniques workshop of Javier, we have the opportunity to taste the products made while enjoying stunning views of the sea and the beach of Ereaga. On the other hand, this location allows us to get to know the rest of the places of interest in the town without having to waste a lot of time in traveling.
