Autocine Getxo, a different way to enjoy the seventh art.
Opened in September 2015, the Autocine Getxo is the only open-air cinema that we can find in the Basque Country, a drive-in cinema that is part of the 5 existing in the whole peninsula. A cinema that excites, a cinema that awakens sensations that conventional cinemas are not able to awaken, a cinema suitable for the whole family. The creators of this drive-in cinema offer us a different way of visualizing the great premieres of the big screen, a cheap and customizable way that we fell in love with.
Located 20 minutes from Bilbao, next to the Andra Mari gas station, we find this site where the 24×12 meters screen that will give life to the most famous actors and actresses of the international scene is located.

Please note that the opening hours of the Getxo Drive-In vary according to the time of the year, as it depends entirely on the time the sun sets. Thus, we find a schedule for summer and another for winter.
History of the Getxo Drive-In: This cinema is the result of the work of two Biscayans, Fernando Soignie and Javier Castaños, two young men from the town of Getxo who, tired of being unemployed, decided to undertake this fun and different way to enjoy the cinema. After many months of hard work and bureaucratic obstacles, the Getxo drive-in movie theater became a reality, an idea that has found great support in the public that has visited this alternative cinema. Intimacy: What happens inside the car, stays in the car. With this simple phrase we can summarize the comfort and intimacy offered by watching the movie in a cabin where only people you know are present. Location: We find this large plot next to the highway that connects Bilbao with the coastal area of Uribe Kosta, a great location that prevents us from entering the urban core of Getxo.

Weather: In the Basque Country, the weather is one of the great enemies of this type of establishments, a point that those responsible for the Getxo drive-in movie theater had in mind since the beginning of the project, so it is possible to attach to the vehicle a kind of visor in case it is raining, a visor that will avoid having to hear the annoying noise of the windshield wipers while watching the movie.

Sound: In the world of technology 2.0 we thought that hearing the sound through the radio was going to be a negative point, nothing could be further from the truth. Having the opportunity to adjust the volume to the taste of each one with just one button is a point that plays in favor of this cinema. Regarding the sound quality we must indicate that we liked it very much, a great quality that will always depend on the stereo that incorporates the vehicle. Remember 106.7 FM.
