Irun is a municipality of about 60 thousand inhabitants that is located on the border with France, being separated from this country by the Bidasoa River. This municipality is one of the most interesting in the province of Guipuzcoa and even in the whole Basque Country due to the history it has behind it, as well as some festivals and of course a first class gastronomy. Here are what we consider to be the four charms of Irun:

Visit the museums, understand the history: A place like this municipality, which has seen so many events of great historical relevance for both Spain and the world in general, deserves to be known in depth and this will be possible for visitors entering the museums of this city, where they are exhibited from works of art to historical pieces that represent the events of the past. Examples of these events are the encounter between the Germans and the Spanish in the Second World War, the arrival of the Roman Empire to the region, constant historical disputes with France and a long etcetera of events that marked this municipality forever. If you like history, a visit to the Oiasso Roman Museum is a must in Irun. http://www.irun.org/turismo/museo_oiasso.asp

Eating in Irun: We are not going to name restaurants in particular, we are only going to explain why the food is so delicious and the experience of tasting the gastronomy in the municipality of Irun so spectacular. This is especially due to the influence of French gastronomy on Basque gastronomy. In Irún there is a mixture of cultures and this is noticeable in the cuisine, being one of the best places to eat in all of Guipúzcoa. In addition, there are numerous restaurants in the municipality and for any tourist it would be tremendously easy to cross the border and enjoy a meal in France.

Camino de Santiago: Another of the attractions that defines this municipality is the number of pilgrims who make their way to Santiago passing through this region, which is of course one of the first on the route. This trend is also influenced by the history of the place, since it has witnessed so many events, what better for a tourist than to make a pilgrimage through this site?

Festivals in Irun: In Irun it is tradition to celebrate in style the history and heritage of the town, so there are a series of events at the end of June that are undoubtedly the best in Guipuzcoa. The feast of San Pedro and the Alardes de San Marcial, which is an event where almost all the inhabitants of Irun put on the uniform and parade through the center of town in honor of the history and cultural richness of the town. This last celebration is famous at national level.
