French Basque Country, where Basque and French culture merge, is worth a visit.

The French Basque Country covers the 3 provinces of the French Basque territory (also called Iparralde in Basque) where you can enjoy from its wild beaches to the most beautiful mountains that separate Spain and France.

We inform you about the points of interest that you should not miss, French Basque Country:

Hendaye (Hendaye): Strategically located between the Basque and French border, it has the longest beach in the area with its 3 kilometers of fine sand and a meeting place for surfers. It is worth mentioning that in 1940 the Hendaye train station witnessed the meeting between the dictators Hitler and Franco.

San Juan de Luz (Donibane Lohizune): We may be talking about the most beautiful coastal town in Lapurdi. Its spectacular beach, the palace of Mokoenia, the bay and the fort of Sokoa, the casino built in 1928 and much more. An incomparable environment to get lost among long walks.

Biarritz: Undoubtedly the town of surfers, this beautiful village was once a whaling village. It offers amazing views of the sea and its points of interest are: the beaches with its famous waves, the lighthouse of St. Martin (73 meters high), museum of the sea, chocolate museum, historical museum of Biarritz, the casino opened in 1901 and the old port among others.

Baiona (Bayonne): Baiona is the capital of the French Basque country and the city has numerous festivals throughout the year. It is worth mentioning the cathedral of Santa Maria (UNESCO world heritage) and its quays where one can stroll around contemplating the unique facades of the old buildings.

Larrun: Located in the Pyrenees, this mountain enjoys excellent views where you can make out Navarra, the mountainous border of France and the Bay of Biscay.
