Alubiada in La Arboleda is synonymous with Casa Sabina, the origin of the historic alubiada of the Trapagaran Valley.
For many years, eating in La Arboleda has been synonymous with alubiada or Sabina, two words that bring to mind those glorious beans with good sacraments served in the urban center of this town. Today, we can find several establishments that advertise this gastronomic dish as a specialty of the house, and it is that, seeing the pull that once had this delicacy, many restaurateurs helped themselves of the fame of Casa Sabina to fill their dining rooms.
It’s been more than a year and a half since the Casa Sabina restaurant changed management but its dining room still smells of beans, will it still be an epic bean feast? Will it become a myth? Read on and find out!
Casa Sabina and its famous alubiada.
Location: Located in the Trapagaran Valley, between mines, mountains and the Mining Museum of the Basque Country, we find the urban center of La Arboleda, a place where many locals come in search of tranquility and a good plate of beans. An ideal place for hiking, mountain biking, golf, climbing and a long list of outdoor sports. In short, a perfect place for nature lovers.
La Arboleda was one of the nerve centers of mining operations throughout the Basque Country, a fact that makes it a protagonist of the history of our people. If you are interested in history, we recommend reading our article on the Mining Museum of the Basque Country.
Price: The price of the Casa Sabina bean stew is € 13.50 including VAT, a price with good value for money to which we must add the other services that we make use: bread, drinks, desserts, coffees etc.. If we add everything up, we can say that the bean menu of Casa Sabina Restaurant is around 20€ per person, VAT included.
Attention: It was Friday, the restaurant was not full but not dead either, it had life. The service was good at all times, friendly, close.
Management: The strength of Casa Sabina’s fame is shaking the foundations of the historic building that houses this establishment, and there are many who blame the change in management on a “supposed” change in the Casa Sabina bean stew. We, intrigued by the rumors, decided to return to Casa Sabina, an experience that lived up to expectations, regardless of the management.
Alubiada: Casa Sabina’s alubiada is composed of a good casserole of beans with capacity for 3 plates (fact checked), a casserole of cabbage with fried garlic, a casserole with chili peppers and a casserole with sacramentos (chorizo, blood sausage, ribs and bacon). As attested by the photos below, the quantity of the beans was as expected, good, without skimping, a unique dish.
The beans, of good broth and color, did not disappoint, and although they may be different from what they were in the past, they maintain a good level. The condiments or sacraments that accompanied the beans followed the same line, good quantity and quality, nothing to tarnish the good name of this restaurant from Bizkaia.
The cheesecake, homemade and consistent, was also up to the task, a pity not to be able to finish it.
TurismoVasco Tiketa: Our exclusive accreditation stayed at Casa Sabina, a well-deserved accreditation for following the hard road marked by its predecessors.
