Taste the grilled fish of the Bodegon Restaurant, the star of its menu of the day.

 

The Bodegon de Mundaka, better known as “Bodegon”, was the restaurant chosen to get our strength back after our visit to the Biodiversity Center of Euskadi. A small old-fashioned local, a local, located next to the port, a local, decorated with fishing motifs that cover the stone and wood that make up its structure, a restaurant of a lifetime.

We can recognize the Bodegon by the plate of “Coca-Cola” that hangs of the facade that shares with the restaurant “Casino”, Casino superior plant, Bodegon first floor, two very well-known restaurants in the coast bizkaino that throughout the years have had several ups and downs as far as their quality. This facade of yellowish color, is whipped continuously by the winds of the Cantabrian, and it is that, the Bodegon, is located in first line of sea, glued to the port, next to the watchtower of Mundaka, an emblematic and privileged location. We recommend parking in one of the parking lots that we can find along Mundaka, since in the center it is practically impossible to park, from any of them, we can walk to the restaurant Bodegon in less than 5 minutes.

We went to the Bodegon on the recommendation of a friend from Mundaka, a recommendation we were grateful for, as it is the first restaurant we have visited that includes grilled fish of the day in its daily menu, a detail that is appreciated. Upon entering, we asked at the bar if it was possible to eat the menu of the day (we had not booked), to which we were told to go to the dining room, a small dining room, dominated by a large window overlooking the harbor and grills on embers in the background.

 

Mundaka: The municipality of Mundaka, famous for its large left wave, its historic center, its small port, its watchtower and the church of Santa Catalina is the gateway by sea to the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai, a natural enclave difficult to forget.

Attention: The atmosphere of the Bodegon restaurant was perfect to eat a good menu of the day sheltered from the dog day that was outside, rain, wind, cold and a sea with waves of more than 2 meters that attested to the state of red alert in which we were. The two waiters who served us (taking notes and serving) made us feel at home, she with a smile at all times and he with a very positive predisposition, commenting on the recommendations of the house. The times between courses were perfect, without haste but without pause.

Menu of the day at Bodegon Restaurant: We were told the menu of the day and two dishes quickly caught our attention, lentils with sacraments as a starter and grilled fish of the day as a main course (red mullet or scorpion fish), said and done. The lentils, served in a deep dish up to the top, were correct in taste, texture and seasoning, nothing to reproach.

As for the fish, we opted for a red mullet (recommendation of the house), a dish with which we had the opportunity to recreate when they put it on the grill, a spectacle. The red mullet was outstanding but also the condiments that accompanied it, a juicy dish with good flavor that gave a touch of quality to the menu of the day of the Bodegon restaurant.

It was time for dessert and the waitress recommended the cheesecake with a: “this is brutal”, another success. Cheesecake with assorted fruits on top accompanied by cream on the side.

Price: The price of the Menu of the day of the restaurant Bodegon is not the cheapest we can find in Bizkaia but neither the most expensive, even more, when the menu includes grilled fish of the day. As you can see in the photo below the total price was 13,20€, making the quality-price ratio of Bodegon restaurant correct, we will definitely come back.
