Iñakiren tavern, a restaurant that you must try in the old town of Bilbao.
If you are looking for quality and quantity in the old town of Bilbao, Iñakiren tavern meets the requirements. Located in the seven streets of Bilbao (old town), it has a good quality / price ratio. We can taste its dishes in any of its two dining rooms, the first one located on the first floor of the restaurant has a capacity of 20 people while the second one located on the top floor has a capacity of 40 diners, as you can see between both dining rooms, Iñakiren taberna has a total capacity of 60 diners, a very good capacity considering the typical structure of the restaurants in the old town of Bilbao.
The restaurant Iñakiren taberna offers us a large number of menus to choose from (menu of the day, 1 snack menu and 3 special weekend menus), ranging from 11€ to 35€. In our case we chose the special menu number 1, consisting of the following dishes:
Starters to share:
Mixed salad.
Scrambled eggs with garlic and mushrooms.
Blood sausage with chorizo in cider.
Fried green peppers.
To choose from:
Grilled entrecote.
Stewed oxtail.
Suckling lamb chops.
Grilled monkfish.
Grilled hake or in green sauce.
Squid in its ink.
Dessert and Crianza wine
25 € VAT included.
As you can see, it is a menu with starters to share, a main course and dessert. The wine chosen to complement the dishes we enjoyed was a 2011 Crianza from Bodegas Solagüen in Labastida (Álava), a great value for money, we liked it so much that we took note of it for a future visit to the winery, sure it will not disappoint us.
The starters, make us completely forget about a first course, their variety and quality gain a lot as we taste each one of them. We have to highlight over the rest of the starters the fried green peppers and the chorizo in cider with black pudding, the peppers had a very good texture and flavor (we have to take into account that it is not the season for peppers). As for the black pudding and the chorizo in cider, they had a very good flavor and an adequate quantity.
The second course, sorry to be heavy but we have to repeat the same phrase that we have repeated several times during this article, quality and quantity , in my case my choice was the entrecote, an entrecote of a size that we are not used to see in a 25€ weekend menu. As they were tasting their dishes the rest of my companions asked them for their opinion and they all agreed, “no matter what dish you choose, you always get it right”.
In summary we can say that this is a typical restaurant in the old town of Bilbao, with great quality at a fair price. The dishes, all of them based on the traditional cuisine of the Basque Country, did not disappoint us, perhaps some of the starters we can say that it is a “normal” dish that does not stand out, but the rest, we can assure you that they stand out and do not leave anyone indifferent.
We entered the restaurant with two children’s chairs that we had previously notified, even so, we had to climb to the upper floor carrying each of the chairs up the narrow wooden stairs, an unimportant fact that we hope they take note in Iñakiren tavern. Every detail counts in order to offer the best service.
As a curiosity we must indicate that Iñakiren tavern gives us the possibility to keep our bicycle in a closed place while we enjoy our menu. Thus making a wink to the ecological transport.
As you can see, we highly recommend this restaurant for the quality and quantity of its dishes, but we also emphasize the small details that often help to improve the quality of the services provided to the customer.
