Dando la brasa has two restaurants in Bizkaia, the first one in Getxo (Algorta) and the second one in Bilbao (Bilbao la vieja) both with the same type of cuisine: a fusion of Latin American and Japanese food (Nikkei). www.turismovasco.com has had the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere and gastronomy of the restaurant in Getxo dando la brasa and on which we will focus our gastronomic review today. To give our opinion on this restaurant we will divide the article into 5 different sections: The area, the place, the service, the price and finally and most importantly the food. Do you want to know what awaits you?

The area: Dando la brasa Getxo, is located in the lower part of Algorta, exactly in the avenue of poplars 31. A quiet area without excessive noise and large parks that allows us to undoubtedly enjoy the food. The restaurant is located about 8 minutes walk from the Neguri subway, a route with a fairly steep slope, we have to keep in mind that we will have to climb that slope after enjoying our lunch / dinner / appetizer, so do not fill the belly too much!!! On the other hand if you go by car you should not worry about parking, this area has many parking lots and free of charge (this area of Getxo has no OTA).

The place: The place of dando la brasa in Getxo, is a not very big place with a small terrace at the entrance. A place with a very neat decoration and a very cozy atmosphere. The candles enliven our stay while we wait to be served, the walls speak for themselves and the music is a little loud …. (although this problem was remedied by one of the waitresses). If what you are looking for is to have a snack and a drink with friends, the sofas of “dando la brasa de Getxo” are waiting for you, undoubtedly the best of the place.

Attention: The attention was correct at all times, all the people who attended us were friendly and always with a smile on their face, which is always appreciated. We had a reservation for 2 in the name of turismovasco.com at 21:00, we arrived 5 minutes early but by 21:00 we were already seated at our table and with the cards in our hands. As we took off our jacket the waitress kindly asked us if we wanted to leave it in a closet they have to leave the clothes of the diners, a detail that we liked. Each dish we were served was accompanied by a brief explanation of the products that accompanied the main course and its flavor.

The price: The only “but” of this gastronomic review for dando la brasa de Getxo. The price of some of the dishes was excessive for the quantity and quality offered. Most of the dishes have an impressive quality that we can not complain about but they also have certain dishes that should lower their price drastically, a clear example of this is the dessert Mango Fresh, this dessert composed of a spoonful of Greek yogurt, mango, petazetas and “pistachio ash” has a cost of 6 €, a somewhat high price for a small bowl of fruit. The other dishes have a high price and a normal portion but their quality is also high, so the balance is balanced.

The food: The most important thing in this gastronomic review about the restaurant dando la brasa in Getxo, the food. As it is a dinner we always eat less quantity than in a lunch, something that we should take into account when choosing our dishes. We were 2 people and we chose to share the dishes in order to try as many dishes as possible.

Starters: We decided to try several starters (in dando la brasa they call them antojitos), perhaps because it was the section where they had the most variety. We tried the following antojitos:

Quesadillas de Leña de Flor de Calabaza + huitlacoche: the kind of bread in which they are served has a flavor that perfectly accompanies its main content.

As a slightly stronger dish we ordered a Kobe Burger with salads, chipotles and chips: The meat was good, the problem of this dish was in its presentation, they presented it in a small metal support to which they gave fire thus maintaining the temperature of the dish, serious mistake, the smell that left this dish was UNSTOPPABLE, thus making the burger lose all its charm.

A detail that caught our attention and that we liked is the option to order half portions.

As a summary we can say that the restaurant DANDO LA BRASA in Getxo is a different restaurant, of quality, with normal or small portions that sometimes goes overboard with the price of their dishes.

If you feel like trying something different from the rest of the restaurants and you don’t mind spending a little more money, we definitely recommend the restaurant DANDO LA BRASA in Getxo.
