This small winery of Txakoli located in the interior of the valley of Txorierri, represents the history of 90% of wineries of Txakoli of our country, and it is that, Magalarte Txakolina, has its origin in the middle of the XIX century, a tradition inherited from parents to children during more than 5 generations that has derived in a professional winery. The wines produced by this winery pass the strictest controls of the Denomination of Origin Bizkaiko Txakolina, D.O. to which it belongs.

Txakoli Magalarte ZamudioMagalarte Txakolina, was divided by force due to the expropriation suffered in the construction of the Txorierri corridor, a division that led to the creation of Magalarte Txakolina Zamudio and Magalarte Txakolina Lezama, 2 wineries, 2 brothers. Both wineries share the same name but not the same surname, Lezama and Zamudio. In this article, we are going to focus on the Zamudio winery, a winery that we had the pleasure to enjoy thanks to the Txakolibus service, a service that combines guided visits to Txakoli wineries with guided tours through the municipalities of the Uribe region.

Winery: Txakoli Magarte Zamudio was born after the expropriation and division of the family winery, a division that forced them to produce Txakoli in the garage of the baserri (farmhouse in Basque) that we visited during the guided tour, as if it were one of the garages of Silicon Valley! This small corner has contributed to the perfection of the Txakoli we know today. Today, the Magalarte Zamudio winery is located next to the family’s own baserri, a space that has been created as the winery evolved, according to the needs.

Vineyards: The family baserri is surrounded by Hondarrabi Zuri vines, plots, which together with the new plantations are part of the hectares that Magalarte Zamudio has distributed at different levels of the sea. The vineyards are under integrated production systems, following the conviction that txakoli is made in the vineyard and not in the winery. It is worth mentioning that these vineyards are harvested manually, a fact that together with its orientation and climatology allows us to obtain high quality grapes.

Tasting room: The tasting room, small, modern and practical, maintains a decoration with small winks to our culture. A decoration in which you can see several of the awards with which this Biscayan winery has been awarded.

Guided tour: The guided tour covers the 3 areas mentioned above. We started in the vineyards, to continue in the winery and finish in the tasting room tasting the 2 wines that Magalarte Zamudio produces today. A tasting that accompanied by local products leaves in the hands of visitors the final assessment of their wines, we loved them!
