Urdaibai ferry route.
The regular ferry line in Urdaibai is one of the most used maritime transports in Bizkaia. A service that connects the two banks of the Urdaibai estuary (Laida beach, the town of Mundaka and Sukarrieta) with a frequency of approximately 20 minutes. This boat route has facilitated for years the mobility in Urdaibai. We leave you a map with the stops.
We also leave you a summary of each of these stops. You must take into account that the tides modify the course of the Urdaibai estuary throughout the day, so these stops may vary several meters depending on the tides.
- Mundaka (Txorrokopunta): Txorrokopunta, an emblematic space located next to Laidatxu beach, is one of the most popular places to board the Urdaibai ferry. And we must take into account that the locals themselves use this maritime transport to access the other side of the estuary and enjoy places like Laida beach or Laga beach.

- Sukarrieta (jetty): The Sukarrieta jetty offers us a safe, comfortable and beautiful space to embark. A point of the Urdaibai estuary, which is often used by people staying in this Basque municipality.

- Laida beach: Laida beach comes and goes with the tides. Its shape and length varies throughout the year. A fact that makes it difficult to establish a fixed boarding point. In order to solve this problem, every day, a flag marks the space where the stop is located.

- Sukarrieta (Txatxarramendi Island): This island near the Sukarrieta jetty is another point where it is possible to board the ferry. A unique and special place that we recommend you to visit in every trip to Urdaibai. We should point out that the stop is located at the other end of the island, about 10 minutes walk from the Itsasbegi train stop. A public transport connection that allows us to get from Bilbao without having to use the car.

Remember that if this section does not solve all your doubts, you can use the comments system that you will find at the end of this article to send them to us. We will try to respond as soon as possible.
- Is the voucher valid for different people? Yes, in fact it is very common for families or groups of friends to buy a voucher to use it during the summer.
- Are dogs allowed on the ferry? Yes, as long as the rest of the people who make the route agree.
- If it is possible to access with the dog, how much does it cost? Dogs do not pay an extra fee.
- Can bicycles, surfboards, wheelchairs or strollers be taken onto the ferry? Yes, there are special rates for them. In the case of strollers, we must take into account that due to the tides, many times the embarkation/disembarkation is done on sand. Keep this in mind.
- Is it possible to book online? Of course! What’s more, we recommend it. You can do it from here.
- Is it necessary to get into the water to embark/disembark? Although the bow gate makes entry much easier, sometimes, the tide makes it impossible to embark / disembark on dry land. Occasionally, we may have to get our feet wet.
- Is it possible to board with a wheelchair? Yes, thanks to the bow gate, we can embark with a wheelchair. However, we must take into account that, for example, in Laida beach we would disembark on the beach itself, which may hinder mobility.
