Before the great experience, before getting behind the controls of these giants of the road, we wanted to go to the town of Etxebarri, where this motorhome rental company has its headquarters. It was there, where, after getting to know their fleet and talking to Noelia, responsible for Fun Fun Fun Caravans, we chose the motorhome that best suited our needs, the Itineo SB700, a 6-seater, 7-meter-long integral motorhome, with which we enjoyed a real trip under the protection and shelter of the Bardenas Reales and Tudela, in the Ribera Navarra. Our first experience in motorhome could not have gone better. From the hand of Fun Fun Caravans, we have traveled through Bizkaia and Araba to finish in the south of Navarra. We must point out that although our motorhome was approved for 6 people, we only traveled 4, a fact that helped a lot in comfort.

Motorhomes: Although we lived our experience aboard the Itineo SB700 motorhome, we had the opportunity to see in person the 4 motorhomes they have, all of them with different characteristics and capacity. We are not going to go into detail about the particularities of each one of them, since their policy is to change them every 2 years and maybe when you go there they will not have the same models. However, all of them follow the same pattern: New, integral, high-end and spotless.

From the point of view of people who had never traveled in a motorhome before, like us, the fact of having a spacious motorhome, with all the comforts and easy to use, has helped us a lot in our first experience.

 

Communication: Fun Fun Caravans offers us communication channels for all tastes: Phone, WhatsApp, email, YouTube, twitter, Facebook, Instagram…Although all of them are equally comfortable, we are left with the fusion between WhatsApp and its YouTube channel, more visual and practical impossible, a joy!

 

Price: When evaluating the quality-price ratio of motorhome rental companies in the Basque Country, we must take into account 5 very important factors:

As you can see, choosing between motorhome rental companies has nothing to do with renting a car or booking a hotel, but both at the same time. It is not the same to rent an empty 6 years old capuchin motorhome for 4 people, than a brand new high end motorhome for 4 people with all kind of details. Can you imagine having to carry a suitcase with only the necessary things for the motorhome? Can you imagine having to carry a suitcase full of sheets, blankets, cutlery, pots and pans? Or do you prefer to carry only your clothes and a towel? The choice is yours.

In this section, we must also take into account that in the same way that there are pirate tourist rental apartments, there are also pirate motorhomes. That is to say, individuals who offer their motorhomes when they do not use them to make their investments profitable. Services, which hardly offer any guarantees, and which, in our opinion, do not compete under the same conditions as motorhome rental companies. Be wary of prices that are too cheap. Normally, motorhome rates range from €110 to €200 per day, depending on the capacity and the season.

 

Experience: We leave the best for last, our experience, our story. Intense and exciting, this is how we can briefly describe our first contact with the world of motorhomes. But this is not this, here is a small summary of our adventure.

In addition to everything we had inside, as if the 7 meters of length of the caravan itself were not enough, we added a little more excitement by anchoring a bike rack. We must point out that in Fun Fun Caravans the bike rack is not an extra, it is free. In addition, they left us a protective tarp that includes the V20 plate (mandatory sign in these cases) and a small ladder to lower and raise the bikes more comfortably. It was as if we were preparing the trip with our mistress (mother in Basque) they left us everything we needed to make our trip perfect, and for free!

In this sense, we remind you that the only items they have as extras are the GPS and the camping chairs/table. After more than 1 hour of explanations and questions, we hit the road to begin our journey, at night, with a vehicle of gigantic proportions and with some fear. And the fact is that, unpolluted, the Fun Fun Fun Caravans motorhomes impose, and much, especially in the first contact, in the first 5 minutes of travel, but once we get used to them, they become another element of the trip.

After more than 2 hours of road, we arrived at our destination, the motorhome area of Arguedas. A perfect place from which to know some of the attractions of the Ribera Navarra as the Bardenas Reales or Tudela. It was here, in Arguedas, where we tested for the first time the kitchen, living room and beds of our motorhome. Conclusions: although as it is logical, the fire does not have the strength of a normal kitchen, it is more than enough to be able to have dinner in conditions, in family or in group, in that enormous dining room in which, refugees of the rain and cold outside we enjoyed a nice tablecloth. The beds follow the same line, very comfortable, a pleasure.

The next day, it was time for a bit of sport, the circular route of BTT “return to the polygon” of the Bardenas Reales, an incredible route to know in first person this desert that contrasts so much with the aspect of its neighbors, the Navarrese Pyrenees. And the fact is that these two points, the Bardenas Reales and the Navarrese Pyrenees, are as different as beneficial depending on the season of the year in which we find ourselves. A route that the transhumant shepherds of the Pyrenean valleys of Roncal and Salazar travel annually with their herds in search of pasture for the autumn and winter. A spectacular tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages and is still very much alive today thanks to the shepherds, who, without much help from public bodies, continue to live as their ancestors did. At the end of the route, nothing like a good shower, warm, with plenty of water, more comfortable impossible. Of course, make sure before entering that there is hot water, maybe one of your companions has played a trick on you and has used more water than necessary.

The route, of about 34 kilometers, (round trip from the interpretation center + return to the polygon) does not have large slopes, but the rocky road coupled with the weather, can make you heavier than thought the journey. We leave you a video to give you an idea of the place and the type of road that you will find. Of course, do not be fooled, the section of the video is downhill and is very comfortable to perform.

After the route and lunch, after a little rest, we went to Tudela. We parked the motorhome in a parking lot that we found after passing the bridge over the Ebro river on the right hand side, next to the historic center, it is free and there is no loss. Before dinner, we did a bit of hunger touring its most emblematic places such as its cathedral.

The choice, the restaurant 33, one of the best restaurants in the area, recommended by the Navarrese Iker Beroiz and his blog delreynomundura, a success, great! Of course, you have to pay for the good things, 50€ per person. Seeing the area where we were, in the orchard of Navarra, we had to try their vegetable menu, but we also tried their menu, in all of them was outstanding.

Back to the motorhome to get strength, sleep and visit the Virgen del Yugo and the views over the Bardenas Reales the next morning, recommended this time by Sandra Blasco, another Navarrese who always contributes her grain of sand in our trips.

By the way, if you like different accommodations, we recommend you to visit the hotel aire de Bardenas, a very special hotel just a few minutes from Tudela.

After enjoying this rural environment, we headed back home. Our experience was so intense and Fun Fun Caravans inspired us so much confidence that we emptied all the tanks at home, in their facilities, what a comfort! gray water, black water and the water tank itself, everything! By the way, all the legends about how unpleasant it is to empty the tanks, remained just that, in legends, nothing to do with reality, very comfortable and simple.
