Enjoy the best sunsets from the cliffs and mountains of the Basque Country.
The Basque country is not known for its sunsets but without a doubt we should not underestimate them, many of our users were impressed with the sunsets they were able to enjoy thanks to our tips. Magical places like the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands or Ibiza are wonderful to relax while watching one of its magical sunsets, well, in the Basque Country we can also do it, you can choose to enjoy one of these wonders from the top of our mountains or from one of our cliffs, all thanks to our geography.
From our experience we recommend to see them from the cliffs, avoiding this way, the cloudiness that we could have from the top of some emblematic mountain of the Basque Country as the gorbea or hiru erregen mahaia. As you know many of the Basque provinces have incredible cliffs from where we recommend you to enjoy our “Basque sunsets”. Here are some of the many places where you should see a sunset:
In Bizkaia, we recommend seeing them from several areas:
-Thepromenade that joins sopelana and getxo, these two Biscayan municipalities are united by a long coastal walk, which begins in the mill of aixerrota (Getxo) and ends on the beaches of the municipality of Sopela. In this route we will find concrete benches distributed along all the way although the fields that surround this walk have nothing to envy to the benches of which we speak to you, so do not doubt it, if you do not find any bench free…..al soil!!!!. We recommend to do the whole walk before, and once finished to retrace our steps to the place that we liked the most to enjoy our sunset.

–Barrika, this municipality, between Sopela and Plentzia, has a coast full of restaurants and summer bars that are perfect to enjoy the Basque coast and its sunsets while having a drink. El golfo norte is one of the most emblematic bars in this area, so well known that it has even appeared in a song (aurrera aurrera athletic) by the famous Basque composer Kepa Junkera, a song dedicated to Athletic Bilbao and in which participated both the players of Athletic Bilbao and other famous people, this is the case of Pep Guardiola. If you do not like the bars and you prefer to enjoy the sunsets in the middle of nature do not worry a few meters from the northern gulf we can find several coves from where we can witness our so appreciated sunset.

–Thepromenade from Pobeña to Kobaron, this promenade has a profile identical to that of getxo-soplena, but without benches, without bars and somewhat narrower, but certainly with a great view of the sea on which the sun will set.

–Urdaibai, throughout the urdaibai area we can find several viewpoints from which we can see the sunset in a unique environment, the urdaibai reserve will offer us a sunset with a unique fauna and flora in the Basque country. A place without a doubt that we must enjoy on our visit to the Basque Country.

In Gipuzkoa, we recommend to see it from one of its coastal towns and of course from the flysch of the Basque coast:
–Theflysch of the Basque coast: The flysch located in the towns of Zumaia, Deba and Mutriku, on the coast belonging to these municipalities we can appreciate a unique Basque coastal area, if we add to this the beauty of the sunset we can have a simply perfect combination.

–Coastal townsof Gipuzkoa, many of the towns on the coast of Gipuzkoa will offer us a traditional environment of the Basque country, a clear example of this is in Getaria.

–MountIgeldo, Mount Igeldo with its spectacular funicular and its ancient attractions is a unique place in the Basque Country. The views from the top of Mount Igeldo will provide us with a sunset that we will hardly forget.

In Alava, we will not be able to see them from a cliff, but we highly recommend one of its emblematic reservoirs.
Ullibarri, the Ullibarri reservoir is the meeting point for the people of Alava in the hot summer months. This reservoir, with the capacity to supply Vitoria and part of Bilbao, will offer us reflections of the sunset in its crystal clear waters.

Navarre, land of castles, carries villages with a charm that we will hardly enjoy in other latitudes of our planet:
Olite, this medieval village of Navarra will enchant you, its streets, its squares, its castle…everything in general!!!! Choose a good place on the top and enjoy the sunset in this emblematic Navarrese village.

The villages of the French Basque country will accompany us in our sunsets, towns like Hendaye, Bayonne, Biarritz or San Juan de Luz are special in themselves, we are sure that if you choose them as a place to enjoy the sunset they will not disappoint you.

From the sea, many companies in the Basque Country offer services to enjoy the sunsets from their pleasure boats, if you opt for this option we recommend you to start from the port of Bermeo. In this port the company hegaluze has its moorings, which offers all kinds of maritime excursions.
