Sagardoa, Basque cider, high quality and in great quantity in 2015, starts the season of Txotx!
The 2015 Basque cider is ready to be tasted by the expert tasters, you and your friends, family, work colleagues or anyone with whom you feel like enjoying this new wine. The cider harvest has been excellent in Euskal Herria, obtaining a total of 13 million natural liters made around 60-70% with native apples, great news that we hope to celebrate with all of you in our cider houses.
The high autumn temperatures have affected the cider making process with a very early fermentation and very good aroma in most cases resulting in a broth:
- Full-bodied.
- Aromatic.
- With fine carbonation.
2015 Basque cider broken down by territory.
Gipuzkoa: In Gipuzkoa 95% of the 2015 Basque cider has been produced, a clear example of the potential of cider in this province. Thanks to the apples obtained in Gipuzkoa, it has been possible to produce 70% of Gipuzkoa cider with native apples, an apple that this year has been abundant in quantity and quality.
Bizkaia, Nafarroa and Araba: These 3 territories have elaborated cider only with native apples, a fact that makes us dream of a future in which all Basque cider is elaborated with native Basque apples. It is worth mentioning that the production of must is increasing as its demand is growing, a fact that has been used by the cider producers of Araba to divide their apples for the elaboration of cider and must.
- Nafarroa has produced approximately 200,000 liters.
- Bizkaia, has produced around 250,000 liters more than in the 2014 harvest.
- Araba, has produced 120,000 liters.
Basque cider Eusko Label 2015.
Eusko Label Cider is the name given to the high quality cider made from 100% native apples, a broth carefully analyzed and guaranteed by the Eusko Label, the first and main guarantee mark managed by Hazi’s Marketing and Certification unit.
Eusko Label cider data for 2015:
- 30 cider makers have made Eusko Label cider.
- A total of 1 million liters of Eusko Label Cider have been produced.
In short, Eusko Label cider increases both the number of liters produced and the number of cider makers. As if that were not enough, the producers have told us that the 2015 harvest is the best they have had so far in this type of cider.
Txotx openings by territory 2015.
The Txotx is an annual experience that we cows face with great enthusiasm, the perfect excuse to gather around a large table and enjoy our culture, history and gastronomy.
- New cider day in Astigarraga on January 13th. In Sagardoetxea and Zelaia cider house.
- Opening of the Araba Txotx season on January 14 at the Trebiñu cider house in Askartza.
- Opening of the Nafarroa Txotx season on January 15 at the Toki Alai cider house in Lekunberri.
- Opening of the Hernani Txotx season on January 16.
- Opening of the Bizkaia Txotx season on January 20 at the Uxarte cider house in Amorebieta-Etxano.
- Opening of the Goierri Txotx season at the Urbitarte cider house in Ataun.
