Enjoy the International Puppet Center of Tolosa, TOPIC, one of the most entertaining spaces of all Tolosa.
During our visit to Tolosa, the former provincial capital of Gipuzkoa, we did not miss the exciting visit to TOPIC, the only puppet center in the Basque Country. Tolosa The Basque town of Gipuzkoa is known among the Basques for its carnivals, its beans, its sweets and its txotxongilos (puppets in Basque), three things that we cannot overlook when planning our trip to Gipuzkoa.
Opened in November 2009, it is a unique, attractive and interesting Center that focuses on imagination, innovation and originality. TOPIC has also become a meeting point for puppeteers from all over the world. A place where to learn, show, research, produce and share experiences, information, reflections and works in a comfortable, functional and avant-garde space with high level equipment.

8 reasons to visit the International Puppet Center at Tolosa.
–A space recommended for all audiences: Our hostess, a funny puppet with spiky hair, welcomes us in her home, TOPIC. A space where the little ones of the house are the protagonists and the adults the ones who have the best time. A place where we remember that time when we were just innocent beings trying to enjoy what life had in store for us. A center where to give life back to this form of theater that once occupied our streets.
–A space where interacting is mandatory: Our hostess made it very clear, interacting, touching and enjoying is allowed and mandatory, but with care. The International Puppet Center of Tolosa has more than 1,850 puppets prepared for our visit, a variety and quality that amazed us. Puppets from all continents are present in TOPIC, but we must emphasize the great Asian collection that we found in Tolosa.
–Unique in Europe: Singular, unique and original. This is how El Centro Internacional de Títeres de Tolosa presents itself in Europe, a center that is part of the International Union of Puppetry, UNIMA.
A pioneering space with state-of-the-art facilities: TOPIC’s 3,600 square meters are divided into several sections, among which we find the permanent collection and temporary collection, accompanied by a documentation space, archive and media library.
History of the International Puppet Center of Tolosa: More than 20 years ago, in 1982, the Center of Initiatives of Tolosa decided to create the International Puppet Festival Titirijai. Today, this festival attracts more than 25,000 people and 160 puppeteers, making Tolosa a world reference. This festival was the one that unleashed the force to create the current TOPIC, a museum built on the culture and knowledge of the puppets of the people of Toulouse.
Special location: Located in the Plaza de Euskal Herria, in the former courthouse and prison of Tolosa, this museum provides an ideal location to enjoy all the attractions of Tolosa.
