We discovered Txapela Taberna, the old Prada restaurant in Bilbao’s old town.
The restaurant Prada a tope de Bilbao disappears to make way for a renewed Txapela Taberna, a new stage that they face with enthusiasm from this establishment located in the old town of Bilbao.
Although this restaurant does not currently belong to the hotel franchise “Prada a tope”, the company from Leon has left a very deep imprint in the kitchen of this restaurant, so much so that they still maintain many of the products from Bierzo that they offered when they were part of the franchise.
Opening hours of the restaurant Txapela Taberna.
Monday to Sunday from 12.00 to 16.00 and from 19.30 to 23.00
Monday night and Tuesday closed for weekly rest.
We went to the restaurant as a group of about 30 people, occupying a large part of the dining room. From that experience we drew several conclusions that can be grouped into different categories, do you want to know them? keep reading!
The restaurant: The restaurant, located in the 7 streets of Bilbao, next to the estuary, in the heart of Bilbao, allows us to enjoy the charms of the city without having to travel long distances.
The restaurant occupies two premises located at street level, divided into two distinct spaces, bar and dining room, in which stone and wood predominate, two noble materials that create a rural aesthetic with a certain charm.
History: The restaurant Txapela Taberna opened in 2007 under the name of Prada a tope, becoming part of the franchise chain of the same name based in León.
After a long period with this franchise, the establishment’s management decided to leave “Prada a tope” to take a solo step, an adventure that has only just begun.
A la carte: The facilities for booking (internet, telephone and in person) and the flexibility to make personalized menus, make the restaurant Txapela Taberna is profiled as a restaurant that adapts to the needs of the customer.
The menu: Although our menu was not the most faithful sample of the Leonese and Basque cuisines, it left us with a good taste in our mouths. The menu consisted of hot and cold starters to be shared by each 4 diners, a main course (meat or fish), assorted desserts, coffee and a drink, as you can see, a very complete menu at a price of 27 € per person.
The quality of the dishes; taste, textures, temperature and presentation among many other things was correct, nothing to reproach. The main courses of the menu, meat or fish, were to the liking of all of us who gathered at the restaurant Txapela Taberna, an achievement that is not always easy to achieve.
Attention: The treatment received was very good, creating a good atmosphere in the restaurant, keeping good times between courses and providing the customer with all the comfort possible.
As you can see, this restaurant represents one more option to eat in the old town of Bilbao.
