Txokomex, Mexican restaurant located in the old town of Bilbao
The takeria Txokomex, is a restaurant that offers music, culture and Mexican gastronomy, a small place ideal for lovers of Mexico. The Txokomex restaurant reminds us of the typical Mexican fast food place with typical touches of the Basque country. This curious restaurant has two premises, just 5 meters from each other, just in front, we have “la kantina de Bartolo” a place with similar characteristics to the takeria Txokomex, but with different distribution, in the kantina de Bartolo the distribution is composed of a bar on the left with several stools and a couple of barrels that serve as tables, while in the premises of Txokomex we only have a table and the kitchen.
Bartolo’s kantina
The way of working that they have established is simple although rare. To order the food we must go to the takeria Txokomex, we must wait for it to be ready in Bartolo’s kantina and to eat it we can do it in any of the two premises they have, although the space of the takeria is very small and barely leaves room for a couple of people. We are going to explain it in a schematic way to be able to understand it more easily:

Waiting: Kantina de Bartolo (although we can wait in the street as well).
Eating: In any of the two.
Bartolo’s kantina does not have much space but it does allow you to be a little more comfortable than in the takeria when tasting any of its dishes.
When we decided to taste the dishes of the takeria txokomex there was only one person serving the two places and it was curious to see how the waiter crossed the street to serve drinks in the kantina and returned to the tekeria to cook the dishes that were ordered. A situation that did not generate much discomfort among the customers of the takeria txokomex, the drink, the food and the Mexican music evaded them from the situation they were facing.

The food, typical Mexican, did not disappoint. Flavors, textures and sauces were mixed to create a pleasant surprise in our palates. We were 7 people, we ordered some typical txokomex nachos to share and a dish for each of us. Some of us ordered sincronizadas and others burritos, same flavor with different shape, personally, the sincronizadas were more comfortable to eat and more compact.

The price; we can say that the price was ideal for the quantity and quality offered, no more and no less. We leave you the menu of dishes and prices they had the day we went, these prices and dishes are subject to change by the local, so we recommend not to take them into account when we get an idea of what we are going to pay.

The treatment was good, he attended us correctly and explained that we could go to the kantina to have a drink while we waited, when the dishes were ready he brought them to us to the kantina where we finally tasted the burritos, natxos and sincronizadas.

In summary we can say that it is a place where the flavors do not disappoint and the price to pay is a fair price. If you are looking for a quiet place to sit at a table this is not your place because it is encouraged to eat standing, either in the street, in the kantina or in the tekeria, but standing.
