Pentxo Restaurant, 9 reasons to taste its menu of the day.
Tranquility and good food used to say the gastronomic connoisseurs, a phrase that nowadays is being lost in favor of the Slowfood movement, a concept that after all comes to promote the same characteristics with which people used to cook in the past.
Location: Located in the heart of Bilbao’s Old Town, next to great emblems of the city such as the Bilbao estuary, the Arriaga theater, the Santiago Cathedral or the Ribera market, the Pentxo Restaurant offers a perfect location to take note of the quality of the gastronomy of the Basque Country without deviating from our path. The subway, the streetcar and the bus, the 3 main pillars of the public transport network of the capital of Bizkaia, are less than 5 minutes walk from the door of the Pentxo Restaurant. A fact, that besides facilitating the communication with the rest of the city and with the bordering localities of the great Bilbao, turns this restaurant into the perfect place for all those people who cannot afford the luxury of losing time in displacements.
Attention: In Pentxo Restaurant they are aware that a good attention is essential to enjoy the dishes of any establishment, that is why, they take care of the customer as if they were themselves. During our stay, we enjoyed a personalized, continuous and friendly service. The presentation of the dishes was correct, as well as the waiting time between courses. Fast, attentive and close, what more could we ask for? The whole team of the Pentxo Restaurant, from the last of the incorporations to Pentxo himself, does a great job in the day to day of this great establishment. We must emphasize and highlight the work of the cooks, and it is that, in all these years in which the Restaurant Pentxo has stood out in the Old Helmet of Bilbao, the women have always been the artists of the kitchen. Currently, mother and daughter, Loli and Henar respectively, are in charge of creating and elaborating the dishes on the menu. In the Basque Country we have famous chefs of great prestige, but we must not forget that during all our history, women have been the fundamental axis of our gastronomic culture, a hard work that we must recognize and applaud.
Establishment: The Pentxo Restaurant has two dining rooms, one on the top floor and the other in the bar itself, at street level. The dining room on the second floor has a maximum capacity of 45 people, presenting itself to us as a small, quiet, cozy and familiar dining room.
The dining room on the lower floor is located next to the bar, a little noisier and less intimate than the previous one, but better located as it is at street level. For all those people with reduced mobility who find it impossible to overcome the architectural barrier represented by the stairs leading to the second floor of the Pentxo restaurant, the dining room of the bar is a good option.
Classic of the old town of Bilbao: The restaurant Pentxo, is a classic of the old town of Bilbao. Since it opened its doors in 1988 until today, it has been able to maintain that great line that characterizes it, combining fresh products of great quality with the good work of its cooks. The Pentxo Restaurant can be easily recognized by the doll that they have in front of the establishment, in the street. The doll “Pentxo” is an emblem of the Casco Viejo, do not miss the opportunity to photograph you next to him, taking with you, this way, another small great memory of your trip to Bilbao. By the way, don’t forget to share it with us on our social networks, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Variety: The Pentxo Restaurant maintains in its menu of the day an incredible variety difficult to see nowadays: 8 first courses, 8 second courses and more than 8 homemade desserts to choose from. On special days, the Pentxo Restaurant has even had more than 10 first courses, more than 10 second courses and more than 10 desserts, a situation that we have rarely seen in the menu of the day of other restaurants.
Quality: The quality of the products is a fundamental element of any good menu, for that reason, in the restaurant Pentxo, they buy fresh products in the markets of the Casco Viejo, offering this way, Basque products of great quality in their menu. We recommend to ask the waiters the recommendations of the day, since they vary depending on the genre obtained.
Value for money: The price of the menu of the day at Pentxo Restaurant varies between 14,50€ on weekdays and 22€ on weekends (price subject to change by the restaurant). We recommend confirming the price on the Pentxo Restaurant website or by calling directly to their phone number. Although at first glance it may seem a bit high price, the high quality fresh products prepared in a traditional way with small touches of modern cuisine and a great attention, make the value for money of this restaurant is positioned as one of the best in the Old Town of Bilbao.
Accreditations: Pentxo Restaurant, has in its possession several accreditations that recognize the good work done in this restaurant, among them, our exclusive accreditation “TurismoVasco Tiketa”, a seal, with which we attest to the great gastronomic experience offered by this local.
