Located in the upper part of Bilbao, Begoña’s batzoki offers us a simple and pleasant place to enjoy good dishes.
The batzokis, a meeting place for supporters of the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), are politicized establishments, like the town houses of the PSOE, the Herriko Tabernas of Bildu and a long list of which TurismoVasco.com normally stays away. But, leaving politics aside and focusing on gastronomy, this place deserved an exception.
Information of interest of the Batzoki de Begoña:
- Monday to Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
- Closed: Sunday afternoons
- Wifi connection throughout the premises
Far from the current trends, glamorous establishments, luxury locations and renowned chefs, the Begoña batzoki awaits us in the Bilbao neighborhood of Txurdinaga, 5 minutes from the Santutxu subway exit, next to the future line 3 of the Bilbao subway and near the Basilica of Begoña.

Attention: The waiters, friendly and attentive, were at all times concerned about the evolution of the table, making the waiting time between courses perfect.
Dining room: Begoña’s batzoki has a small dining room, renovated with a simple but adequate decoration. Its size makes that the attention is personalized, creating a very familiar atmosphere.
Price: A good value for money, this was undoubtedly one of the points we liked the most about Begoña’s batzoki. In our case we opted for menu number 4, the most expensive of those available in this establishment, but also one of the most complete. You can check the contents of Menu number 4 in the following point.
We should point out that the starters were one dish for every 3 diners.
Quality: The products were fresh, of good quality and well processed.
Variety: The establishment has a menu of the day and 4 special menus to choose from, in addition to its complete bar of pintxos, undoubtedly, a great variety.

Presentation: The dishes did not dazzle with their presentation, but the presentation gave a nod to the creative and contemporary cuisine of the Basque Country.
Location: The restaurant does not have a great location but the fact that it is 5 minutes from the Santutxu subway and 15 minutes walk from the Basilica of Begoña, makes it perfectly communicated with the rest of the city.
As you can see, Begoña’s batzoki is a good option to taste good dishes in a small, cozy and quiet dining room.
