Discover Bilbao and Bizkaia with Bilbao Bizkaia Card, the card that includes all of them.
The Bilbao Bizkaia Card, better known as BBcard is a card based on contactless technology, this new technology allows you to pay without reading the chip physically, just bring it close to a reader to pay and enjoy all that it includes.
What does the Bilbao Bizkaia card include?
The Bilbao Bizkaia card allows us to enjoy the vast majority of museums and public transport in Bizkaia. We must take into account that all the services included can only be enjoyed within the period of validity of the card (24 hours, 48 hours or 72 hours), in summary we can say that the card includes the following services:
-Unlimited admission to museums and tourist attractions in Biscay.
-Unlimited travel on practically all public transportation in Biscay.
In addition to these services, the card comes with a tourist guide in 6 languages and maps of Bizkaia and Bilbao. The card also offers other additional advantages such as discounts in leisure and restaurants.
How does the Bilbao Bizkaia Card work?
The card can be purchased at different points of sale, we can choose between physical points of sale (tourist offices, hotels, travel agencies…) or online points of sale (Bilbao Bizkaia Card website), once we have the card in our hands we will have to write our name and the date on which we start to use it on the back of the card. The card is personal and non-transferable, so the prices of the card should be multiplied by the number of people who are going to make the trip. The first time we make use of it, it will be activated automatically and it is then when the period of validity of the card will begin to count.
Neoturismo, the company responsible for this card, offers it as a great way to save time and money on our trip to Bilbao, is it true? Is it worth buying? Find out with us.
When we talk to tourists, they tell us that the most important reason why they buy the Bilbao Bizkaia Card is the economic reason. However, is it really cheaper to buy the card for our trip to Bizkaia than to pay for the services we use ourselves? The prices of the card vary depending on the time we are going to use it:
- 24-hour card: €30.
- 48-hour card: 35€.
- 72-hour card: 40€.
In order to get an idea of the prices we will find in museums and transportation in Bizkaia, we will take several prices as a reference:
- Guggenheim Museum Bilbao: 14€.
- Barik card valid on all public transport: 3€ for the card without credit, plus 5€ minimum card recharge, 8€ in total. More information about this card can be found on the website of the Bizkaia transport consortium .
With these two references we can begin to draw conclusions, but even so we will try to go into more detail the expenses of our hypothetical trip to Bizkaia. Let’s imagine for a moment that we are a couple who are going to enjoy Bizkaia and its charms for 3 days (72 hours). Let’s imagine that in those two days we plan to visit the following tourist attractions in Bizkaia:
- Guggenheim Museum Bilbao: 14€.
- Bizkaia Bridge or Suspension Bridge: 9€ (audioguide included)
- Museum of berets la encartada: 5€.
- Bilbao Fine Arts Museum: 7€.
- Bilbao Maritime Museum: 6€.
- Mining Museum of the Basque Country: 3€.
- El Pobal Ironworks: 5€ (demonstration included)
- Loizaga Tower. Museum of antique and classic cars: 7€
9 museums / tourist attractions in 3 days, maybe too many, it all depends on the tourist profile we have. These museums add up to a total of 61 € per person, so the total amount to be paid would be 122 € only in museums. As for transportation, we calculate that a 30€ barik card is enough for the two of us to move around the vicinity of Bilbao. So the transportation costs would amount to 33€ (the card has a cost of 3€).
Our trip through Bizkaia without the Bilbao Bizkaia Card
- Museums = 117€.
- Transportation = 33€.
- Total=150€.
Our trip through Bizkaia with the Bilbao Bizkaia Card
- Bilbao Bizkaia Card 72 hours = 40€.
- Bilbao Bizkaia Card 72 hours = 40€.
- Total: 80€.
As you can see, if you like to visit many museums or tourist attractions, the card is well worth it. It all depends on the tastes of each one.
We recommend visiting the website to obtain detailed information on each of the services included in www.BilbaoBizkaiaCard.com, where you can filter information by categories, see the participating establishments, purchase the card online, plan your trip and much more!
