TOP ACTIVIDADES

Prepare your senses and get into the incredible experience of tasting the dishes of the restaurant Taberna La Era.

After our Segway adventure through the Salado de Añana valley, Esteban and Estela, responsible for the active tourism company SaltWay, recommended us to enjoy one of the best restaurants in the area, the restaurant Taberna La Era. Eager to try their dishes and assess in first person if it was really one of the best restaurants in Alava, we headed to Escota (Askoeta in Basque), the town where the restaurant Taberna La Era is located.

Hours of Taberna La Era

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 10:00 to 18:00.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10:00 to 2:00.
  • Sunday: 10:00 to 22:00.

*Monday closed for weekly rest

A renovated stone baserri (farmhouse), a natural environment of great value, a rural decoration, a good personal attention and high quality products are the letter of introduction of the restaurant that concerns us. They say that the restaurant Taberna La Era is one of the restaurants in Alava with more character and better value for money in the province, is it true? Do you want to know our experience in detail? Attention!

Taberna La Era, the farmhouse converted into a restaurant.

At the end of our Segway tour, while enjoying a relaxed poteo through the streets of Añana, we decided to call the restaurant and check if they had a place for us, bingo! a table was waiting for us in Escota.

Decoration: Upon arrival, its decoration made us expect the best. A careful decoration full of small details let us glimpse that nothing was casual in Taberna La Era. Images of the salt valley, old farming tools and a good fireplace made the small corner they had prepared for us cozy, simple but cozy, why else?

Location: Located in Alava – Araba, the largest province of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (Euskadi) allows the restaurant Taberna La Era to be surrounded by nature in its purest state. Among large plots of farmland and next to a small concentration of stone houses, we found what would unknowingly become one of our favorite restaurants in the province.

Its location is perfect for all those who travel along the AP-68 highway at the Pobes-Nanclares exit, since it is 7 minutes from the highway and does not waste time in the displacement.

History: The baserri (farmhouse) that houses the Taberna La era has more than 200 years of life, 200 years sheltering the same family that saw its birth. What was once a farmhouse has become the next step in food production, the restaurant.

Marta and Susana, together undertook the adventure of cooking the same products that their great-grandparents, Moisés and Beatriz, harvested in their lands, blessed lands! Today, Susana holds the reins of Taberna La Era, a task she performs marvelously with the help of all the workers, including her magnificent chef Iñaki Álvarez.

Menu: The menu we chose was the weekend menu, a menu that looked promising on paper and spectacular on the tablecloth. One of the mottos of Taberna La Era, never before has it represented a restaurant so faithfully, “The art of good cuisine is nourished by the essence of traditional flavors”.

The cream of potatoes Rioja style that we were served as the first starter was the opening of what would be a menu with a great value for money, a cream with good texture and flavor that brought to mind a plate of potatoes Rioja style in every spoonful that we tasted.

It was followed by beef jerky with olive oil, leeks stuffed with salmon with roquefort sauce, foie mecuit salad, mozzarella ravioli and mushrooms on pumpkin cream. We were pleasantly surprised by the starters and enjoyed them.

The main course of the menu was beef tenderloin with idiazabal. A high quality sirloin that besides being well cooked and presented at a perfect temperature, it melted in the mouth, pure butter.

Attention: The attention of the waitress who served us was really good. The waiting time between courses was perfect, perhaps the best we have had before, always attentive to the table to check the needs of the diner, but without stressing, letting us enjoy.
