SaltWay, the great Segway adventure through the Salt Valley of Añana.

TOP ACTIVIDADES

Get to know the Añana Salt Valley from a unique perspective aboard the SaltWay Segway, are you on board?

Las Salinas de Añana, is one of the places we always have in mind to recommend to our readers, a place with character, with grit and history that we have traveled aboard the Segway of the active tourism company SaltWay, do you know them? We present them to you.

SaltWay, born and grows in Añana, land of its creators, Esteban and Estela, a local couple that brings us a different point of view, atypical, close. From the people and for the people. This is one of the strongest reasons to do this Segway route, the local point of view of another inhabitant. Forget about guides, they are children of salt workers, they are part of the Añana Salt Valley, who better than them to accompany us during our route through the salt valley?

Where to park in Añana:

The town of Añana has 3 parking lots scattered around its entire length. If we enter through the neighboring municipality of Nanclares de Oca, from the highway, the signs indicate perfectly the way to follow, follow the signs, you will not get lost.

Another reason to make this incredible experience is called Segway® Personal Transporter X2, the Segway all-terrain model, the big brother of the I2 model that travels the streets of big cities. SaltWay’s current fleet is 6 Segway PT X2, a small fleet that makes all routes very close, familiar, offering ease of interaction between the visitor and the local, ease of learning. The most advanced technologies run through the guts of this great little personal transportation vehicle. A new concept of mobilization that costs around 9.000€ per unit, cheap right?

Return to the SaltWay Salt Valley.

We start in the center of town, in the Don Miguel Díaz de Tuesta square, next to the town hall. A quiet, perfect place to take control of what for the next 75 minutes will be our pack mule, our personal transport.

First steps on Segway

After our brief but intense apprenticeship we start the route through the narrow streets of Añana, a route that is enlivened by the words of our host and companion Esteban.

SaltWay Route

Before starting to skirt the valley, we make the first stop, the first viewpoint, the first contact with the Salt Valley of Añana.

Salt Way overlook

We began to skirt the valley, we began to discover the secrets of the plots that make up the salt flats. More viewpoints, more incredible views, more panoramic views, more photos to remember.

On our way we came across the Royal Monastery of San Juan de Acre, a monastery in which the cross of the Order of Malta presides over the entrance door.

We finished going around the Salt Valley passing one of the rivers that run through the valley with Esteban’s help.

SaltWay Bridge

Finally we unleash the power of the Segway X2 and switch from beginner mode, mode in which most of the route is performed (maximum speed 9.6 km / h) to regular mode (maximum speed of 20 km / h).

Segway Añana

Unfortunately we thoroughly tested the SaltWay raincoats. The heavy rain that accompanied us for more than 10 minutes put to the test the KIT that each Segway unit has: gloves, raincoat, helmet and reflective vest. A marvel, yes, as you read, a marvel of raincoat, it completely covered our person and the Segway backpack, we took it off and we were completely dry, it was appreciated.
