The Echevarria factory, a steel foundry, occupied for more than 2 decades the land on which today is the park of the same name. But it was not always a large company. In its beginnings, in 1878, when José Echevarria and his sons bought the land, its activity was limited to rolling and stamping. As time went by, they began to manufacture nails for the whole world, which forced them to leave this location to expand their factory. The year 1980 was the last year in which the Echevarria’s factory was active in this location. In 1987 the municipality of Bilbao bought the land. After the industrial reconversion of Greater Bilbao, the city council designed a large green space on this site. Unfortunately, the original chimney of the foundry is the only element that reminds us of it. An industrial structure, which reminds us of the golden age of the city.
