Asador Urizar, a small gastronomic temple hidden behind the facade of a brewery.

 

At the top of Andrakas, in the town of Lemoiz, near the coastal towns of Plentzia, Gorliz and Armintza, we find the Asador Cervecera Urizar, a simple gastronomic space, which gives us the opportunity to enjoy its wide range of products.

Although at first glance, the design of the place invites us to eat the typical brewery menu (roast chicken, sausage, croquettes, potatoes and blood sausage), we recommend reading carefully the menu of Asador Urizar, and is that in it, we find a nice list of grilled meats and fish.

The Asador Urizar is located in a great rural setting, a restaurant that offers large indoor and outdoor spaces, a combination that makes it a perfect choice for any time of year.

Location: The Asador Urizar, one of the most demanded establishments in Lemoiz during the summer season, owes its success to the privileged environment in which it is located.

Strategically located on the Basque coast, in the Bizkaia region of Uribe, 20 minutes from downtown Bilbao and 5 minutes from the nearest beach, allows us to enjoy nature and the outdoors without wasting time on the road. Cliff, beach or mountain? You choose.

Facilities: The large spaces of the Asador Urizar make it one of the best gastronomic establishments for families. To emphasize; wide lounges, several terraces, children’s area, parking and large fields. In the interior area we find 2 differentiated spaces, a large dining room with continuous tables and a small side addition, quieter, with more privacy. Its outdoor area makes the summer after dinner especially pleasant, a space that pleases young and old alike.

Recommendations: Due to the high demand of Asador Urizar in high season, booking becomes practically an obligation. In order not to find ourselves trapped in the long lines that form during the weekends and summer season, we recommend bringing forward the time to eat. We recommend tasting some of their grilled fish.

History: The Asador Urizar has been a reference establishment in Lemoiz for more than 20 years. Since Jose Miguel “Batela” and Mª Begoña opened the Asador Urizar in the summer of 1997, both the team of professionals who work there and the family nucleus that manages it have done a great job to maintain the level of the Asador Urizar.

Menu: Although many of the people who go to Asador Urizar ignore the potential of its cuisine (a group in which we were included until a couple of days ago) we must take into account that thanks to its commitment to local products, some of its grilled fish are among the best valued dishes in the region of Uribe.

In the Asador Cervecera Urizar, we find 2 types of menus, the brewery and the special ones. Although both types have our approval, we must be clear about the difference between them.

In the beer menus we find dishes like normal salad, chicken, french fries, chorizo in cider, green peppers, homemade croquettes or black pudding, while in the special menus of Asador Urizar we find txitxarro, grilled prawns, warm salad of cod, grilled steak, grilled rib, grilled entrecote, grilled turbot, txipirones encebollados or ijadas of bonito among many others. In Urizar not only good chicken is served, the grilled fish and its meats with garnish demand their place in the tables of this restaurant from Bizkaia.

Service: Regardless of the type of dish chosen, self-service is the format used at Asador Urizar to manage the dispatch of its dishes. An agile and practical format, very extended among the establishments of beer type but strange when it comes to dishes such as turbot or steak. Regardless of the type of service, the treatment of the staff at Asador Urizar was very attentive during the entire stay.

In conclusion, the Asador Cervecera Urizar is not a typical brewery, its grilled fish are convincing and its local products are enchanting, dishes to which we must add the spaciousness of its exterior.
