Agurtza teaches us the art of fishing and the way of life of Basque fishermen from land.<\/h1>\n

This Biscayan tuna fishing vessel has been converted into a fishing technique interpretation center in the Biscayan town of Santurtzi. A perfect setting to remember one of the most important trades in the economic and industrial development of the Basque Country. <\/p>\n

History of the tuna boat Agurtza: <\/strong>The tuna boat Agurtza is one of the few wooden tuna boats used during the second half of the 20th century that still exists today. This Basque fishing vessel was born in the Murelaga shipyard in Lekeitio in 1968, starting its activity in this same port. <\/p>\n

During the first years it not only sailed <\/span>along the Cantabrian coast, but also worked in waters near Senegal, the Canary Islands and even Venezuela. By the end of 1999 it was going to be scrapped, but the Santurtzi City Council acquired it, winning a competition of ideas and recovering this important sample of our maritime heritage. <\/p>\n
