An icon of the Basque people. Formerly, the Casa de Juntas of Gernika hosted the assembly in which the legislative power of Bizkaia was exercised. Although it appears very simple, the history of this shelter says a lot about the history of Gernika. Together with the Pasealekua air raid shelter, it currently forms part of the Gernika Air Raid Shelter Route. This space was built in 1936 to protect the workers of the \u201cTalleres de Gernika\u201d factory. It is a concrete structure hidden behind a false ceiling that simulated the roof of a house so that aircraft could not recognize it.
