Where the green pastures merge with the blue sky, where the beech and oak trees share the ground, where the provinces of Araba and Bizkaia add their most natural charms, we find one of the most beautiful routes of all Gorbeia, the circular route Pagomakurre, Ojo de Atxulaur, Arraba fields, Pagomakurre. Traditionally, mountaineering or hiking in Gorbeia is synonymous with climbing to its highest point, to the cross. But in this occasion, we want to leave behind the already historical ascent to Gorbeia, to show you a circular route by the magical surroundings of Itzina. A beautiful, short and grateful route with Pagomakurre, the Eye of Atxulaur, Kargaleku and the Arraba fields as protagonists.

The Itzina massif, a beautiful place full of life and mystery, is one of the best kept treasures of the Gorbeia Natural Park, one of those places that are not easily forgotten. And the fact is that the more than 570 hectares of limestone and centenary trees that we find in its interior create a film-like landscape. This circular massif, apparently inaccessible, has small openings scattered throughout its length, including the Ojo de Atxulaur, one of the easiest, most striking and used accesses to this Basque enclave. A pass that we will cross during the route through Gorbeia that we show you today.

Although the circular route through Itzina passes very close to the caves of Supelegor or Itxulegor, abode of some of our most important mythological characters, we will not pick them up in our itinerary, although there is always the possibility of adding it to the plan of the day.
