Hiking is an outdoor activity that consists of walking along a pre-established route without a required pace, speed or time. It is a non-competitive sport, in general, and is carried out in the mountains as well as in rivers and other natural areas. In Alava, due to the amount of existing mountains and how crowded they are, hiking is a very popular activity that is practiced by people of all ages and any physical condition. <\/p>\n

In Alava, most of the hiking trails are located in the Natural Parks and in the so-called “Green Ring” located on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Vitoria. Below, we are going to list the best walks in Alava <\/b>or best places to practice hiking. <\/b> <\/p>\n

Gorbeia Natural Park:<\/strong> Located on the border of Alava and Vizcaya, in this park you can hike from the entrance of the park up to the Gorbea Cross, at the top of Mount Gorbea. Thanks to the beautiful views it is one of the most famous hiking routes in Alava. <\/p>\n

Natural Park of Valderejo:<\/strong> Located in the west of the province of Alava, the Natural Park of Valderejo offers one of the best walks in Alava<\/b> as it is one of the alternatives with the greatest variety of routes, having up to nine possible paths to choose from when hiking. Despite being one of the smallest Natural Parks in the province, Valderejo, is a site of great interest for hikers and tourists who wish to try new experiences in terms of mountain routes and other adventure sports. <\/p>\n

Urkiola Natural Park:<\/strong> Famous for its deep valleys, the Urkiola Park offers one of the most spectacular routes in Spain, combining a gentle, easy to walk path with views and landscapes worthy of framing. It is also adorned by immense limestone rocks, ravines, caves and deep valleys, previously mentioned. It is recommended to visit Urkiola in summer to better appreciate the natural wonders found in its trails, however at any time of the year it is an attractive site for tourists who visit the province of Alava. Green Ring of Vitoria:<\/strong> In the green ring that is located on the outskirts of the capital of the Basque Country, Vitoria-Gasteiz, there are more than 47 kilometers of routes for walking or cycling. You can also hike in some of the city’s parks such as Salburua Park, Armentia Park and Gamarra Park, one of the largest sports areas in all of Alava. <\/p>\n
