The Basque Country is a people who for many years lived from the field or the sea without altering what was obtained from them, today, like any other country, it is more common to see non-organic products in supermarkets. However, the variety of products that we can find in Euskadi is very wide and partly thanks to ENEEK (Council of Agriculture and Ecological Food of Euskadi), for this reason, from www.turismovasco.com we decided to contact them, so that they themselves first hand, explain us their work to make the Basque Country a territory where organic products are more common than those that are not. <\/p>\n

As we all know, ecological, biological or organic agriculture is a system of food production that maintains the natural health of the land, ecosystems and, of course, our own. In order to produce organic food, it is necessary and fundamental to do without any chemical products, such as pesticides. <\/p>\n

Organic products can be distinguished by the European Union logo called “euroleaf”, and if the product has been certified in the Basque Country it carries the code ES-ECO-026-VAS of ENEEK.<\/p>\n

The Ecological Agriculture and Food Council of the Basque Country (ENEEK), has several objectives or tasks, on the one hand to spread the knowledge and application of organic production systems, promoting the consumption and dissemination of organic products of the Basque Country and on the other hand to control and certify the production of organic products, this task guarantees to end users that the product complies with the rules of production, processing, import or marketing of the European Union regulations.<\/p>\n

In the end, the council of agriculture and organic food of Euskadi aims to obtain as a reward for their hard work that traditional producers become part of the organic producers of the Basque Country, promoting and encouraging a stable supply – demand relationship for the market of organic products in the Basque Country.<\/p>\n

Organic products in the Basque Country abound and it is easy to cook a 100% organic menu, I myself, I have to say, I have cooked in my own home an organic menu with a very recommendable quality-price ratio.<\/p>\n

Here are just a few of the hundreds of organic products that can be found in the Basque Country:<\/p>\n

-Vegetables of all kinds.<\/i><\/p>\n

-Organic bread produced in artisan bakeries<\/i><\/p>\n

-Cider<\/a>, wine <\/a>or txakoli <\/a> <\/i><\/p>\n

-beef, lamb, foal, pork or snail<\/i><\/p>\n

-Organic cheeses -cow, sheep or goat- and their derivatives.<\/i><\/p>\n

-Vegetable preserves.<\/i><\/p>\n

-Organic sweets.<\/i><\/p>\n

-Ecological Basque honey made by our bees.<\/i><\/p>\n

We must put on the table all the pros and cons of organic food, and you will see how we will get rid of myths such as organic products are a luxury. From ENEEK we indicate that more and more of us are demanding organic products in establishments, but unfortunately, such products can not be produced on a massive scale, so more baserritarraz (farmers, Basque farmers) are needed to meet the demand. <\/p>\n
